MUDEIQN IQEGATIA . . . The race up the falls was a rough one but we had a motley crew and tough officers. Skipper Thompson was Admiral, Hollie Hughes was Cap- tain, Tony Hanna was First Mate, Skipper Wil- son was Paymaster and Secretary and Pat Ley was in charge of the log. The crew of the good ship S.S. Draftboard were Velma Valin, Marilyn Mason, Lois Knight, Marian Borshay, Shirley Hay- den, Joann Black, Shirley McNeal, Beverly Hughes, Howard Main, Gerald Eastlick, Bonny Sharp, Pat Ley, Agnes Mello, Clair George, Joe Hurliman, Pat Valin, Francis Calloway, Pat Larkin, Frank Mello, Betty Wicks, Juel Utz, Vernon Gil- more, Pat King, Joanne Baxter, Russell Skillen, Mary Walthall, Albert Kueger, Roy Eastlick, Linn Stoutenburg, Louis Young, Charles Snapp, Donald Bottoms, Fred McBride, Jack Stacker, Jim Dyer, and Nathan Steele. We ran short of food so the crew of a friendly boat gave us some Iimburger cheese to rub under our noses to give us energy and we gave them a party in return. We struck a reef and had to go into dry dock for three months. Our second leg of the iourney was under Mr. Harper, since Mr. Thompson had iumped ship while we were in dry dock Kas l have said, we were a rough crewl. Roy Eastlick was Captain, Tony Hanna was First Mate, Albert Krueger was Secretary and Paymaster, Pat Ley was in charge of the Log. A few-of the crew did not make it back. They were: Velma Valin, Bonny Sharp, Agnes Mello, Pat Valin, Pat Larkin, Frank Mello, Fred McBride and Nate Steele. We had to take on a few new members. They were: Duane Carlson, Jack Baird, Jerry Bogue and Lee Bussie. The rest of the crew remained the same. We stopped on the bank of Holiday's reservoir for a party in which we entertained the crews of three other ships in the race. The third leg of our iourney was started after we had stopped for a three months' rest for re- fueling and repairing at the Half-way Point. We started out in second place. The officers were: Captain, Tony Hanna, First Mate, Jack Stacher, Secretary and Paymaster, Clair George, Nathan Steele who had iumped ship at the quarter point came alongside in his canoe and he took up his old iob. The crew was made up of the following seamen: Russell Skillen, Charles Snapp, Linn Stoutenburg, Juel West, Mary Walthall, Betty Wicks, Lois Knight, Albert Krue- ger, Howard Main, Marilyn Mason, Shirley Mc- Neal, Vernon Gilmore, Shirley Hayden, Beverly Hughes, Hollie Hughes, Joe Hurliman, Pat King, Francis Calloway, Duane Carlson, Jim Dyer, Ger- ald Eastlick, Roy Eastlick, Jack Baird, Joanne Bax- ter, Joann Black, Jerry Bogue, Marian Borshay, and Don Bottoms. The crew was growing restless so a few ac- tivities were necessary. A dance was held in which the crews of the other three ships were invited. lt was a good dance, but only served to make the crew more restless so it was decided to give a play, Riddle Me Riches. This put the crew in a friendly mood so they invited the crew of the Old Sl on a trip to an icy mountain pool in Oregon for a swimming party. Tired from all these activities we rested for three months. On the Last Leg of our iourney, we had to teach the crew of the boat that was in fourth place a lesson to take some of the wind out of their sails. We put on another play to calm the excited crew. The play was Glamour Boy. A number of our crew were either shanghaied or deserted. They were: Jerry Bogue, Jack Baird, Pat Ley, Lois Knight, Betty Wicks, and Nathan Steele. This put us in a bad position so we shanghaied Bob Dalzell and Barbara Whitley. On May 29, 1952, our ship crossed the finish line. The officers were: Captain, Charles Snapp, First Mate, Joe Hurlimann, Secretary and Pay- master, Marilyn Mason, and the Logkeeper, Pat King. The other members of the crew were: Ger- ald Eastlick, Roy Eastlick, Jack Stacher, Tony Hanna, Lois Young, Linn Stoutenburg, Claire George, Beverly Hughes, Marian Borshay, Hollie Hughes, Marilyn Mason, Shirley Hayden, Shirley McNeal, Vernon Gilmore, Albert Krueger, How- ard Main, Juel West, Joann Black, Francis Cal- loway, Don Bottoms, Joanne Baxfer, Mary Wal- thall, Duane Carlson, Jim Dyer and Russell Skillen, THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY: IIFFIL MOTOR!
