Vx ' v - A t ootba I For the second consecutive year Esther- ville Junior College Helded a football team, coached during 1947-'48 by Henry Koob. The unfortunate Wolves dropped six of their seven games and played to a scoreless tie in the other. In their first game the Wolves jour- neyed to Austin where they took it on the chin 18-6 in a driving rain and wind- swept field. Buena Vista's B eleven ig- nored the locals' 7-0 half-time lead, and went on to win 12-7. In their third try of the season the Koobmen threatened three times against the undefeated Sheldon J. C. before bowing out 14-7 at the gun. Outstanding defensive play highlighted the Wolves-Waldorf game which BJC dropped by a close 7-0 score. A disastrous second quarter was responsible for the Wolves, next loss, 13-0 to Mason City. Playing in a sea of mud which grounded offenses, the college managed to salvage a 0-0 tie with the power-laden Gustavus Adolphus Frosh. In the final game a strong Bethel aggregation from St. Paul added two touchdowns to their 6-0 inter- mission lead during the last half and used a stubborn defense to discourage any threat offered by the Wolves.
