The Estacada Rangers in their 1953 season won seven League games, lost none, and tied none, resulting in the undisputed Willamette Valley League Championship, under the guidance of Coach Keith Moore. . The mighty Estacada Rangers had possibly the most successful year in football ln EUHS history. The season started with a pre-season game with Gervais, which the Green took in stride with a score of 33 to O. The Willamette Valley Jamboree was held here again this year with the South de- feating the North 4.0 to 18. The individual quarters wentfas follows: Estacada 6, Woodburn 6, Mt. Angel 12, Canby 6, Molalla 12, Dallas Og Silverton 16, Sandy 0. Woodburn became the first League team to fall under the Green ax. The Rangers ran away with the ball, winning 13 to 0, for a successful start. Then they went into their second league game playing host to the Silverton Foxes. The game ended with another win tucked under the belts of the Green and White, who were out in front 13 to 6. Jim Vickerman and Ron Kiggins hit pay-dirt in the first and second quarters. The Estacada team next journeyed to Molalla for the third and perhaps their closest and hardest fought League game of the season, with the Hangers edging the Indians 19 to 18. The touchdowns were made by a series of passes from Del to Ron and long gains by Jim Vickerman, Sarver, and Hayden. The fourth straight Willamette Valley League win for the Rangers was a 21 to 6 victory over the Sandy Pioneers on the home ground. Although the score was more than a slight margin, the Sandy defense did give the Rangers trouble throughout the game. Scorings were made by Ron Kiggins. Dmytryk. J. Vickerman and Nick Hayden. The Rangers' fifth League win was an outstanding offensive and defensive game with Del Kiggins pitching 16 out of 20 completed passes. helping thc Rangers top Mt. Angel 38 to 0. Buzz Randall. Jim Weston, and Jerry McMahon played outstanding defensive in the line. Denny Sarver. outstanding Sophomore halfback, suffered a broken leg and a dislocated knee in the Mt. First row: Wallace, Nick Hayden, Ames, Marchbank, Sinclair, Ron Kiggins, Del Kiggins, Dmytryk. Second row: Griggs, Managerg Jenkins, Managerg Bob Christenson, Terry Vickerman, Jim Miller, James Hare, Harbert, Cirt, Mr. Osburn, Coach. 1954 Basketball Season The Estacada Rangers opened the season after two days of practice with a sea- sonal crew of six seniors and one junior. The small but scrappy Rangers came in second in Willamette Valley League play with the best defensive record of any team. The loss of Bill Sinclair for most of the season and injuries to Bob Marchbank and Ron Kiggins were the stumbling blocks toward a championship. The seniors-Bob Marchbank, Nick Hayden, Stan Dmytryk, Bill Sinclair, and Del and Ron Kiggins, who were picked on the Willamette Valley League Second and Honorable Mention All-Star teams-played outstanding games throughout the season. Gary Ames, a junior, was picked unanimously on the first WVL All-Star team. The Ranger B-squad had a losing season with a three-won-and-seventeen-loss record. Freshmen dominated the squad with only two sophomores on the team. Coach Moore looks for a better season in 1955. The Rangers are still in the running for the District title at this writing. Outstanding defensive play by the team, with Del Kiggins, Bob Marchbank and Cary Ames leading the offense, has been particularly noticed. Junior Varsity First row: Jenkins, Manager, Linn, White, Prokop, Vestal, Mattson, Lynn McAllister, Fugle, Mr. Moore, Coach. Second row: Griggs, Manager, Ron Slaughter, Sagner, Ron Hare, Jerry Christenson, Looney, Shibley, Carter, Blum, Ted Slaughter.
