The Estacada Rangers in their 1953 season won seven League games, lost none, and tied none, resulting in the undisputed Willamette Valley League Championship, under the guidance of Coach Keith Moore. . The mighty Estacada Rangers had possibly the most successful year in football ln EUHS history. The season started with a pre-season game with Gervais, which the Green took in stride with a score of 33 to O. The Willamette Valley Jamboree was held here again this year with the South de- feating the North 4.0 to 18. The individual quarters wentfas follows: Estacada 6, Woodburn 6, Mt. Angel 12, Canby 6, Molalla 12, Dallas Og Silverton 16, Sandy 0. Woodburn became the first League team to fall under the Green ax. The Rangers ran away with the ball, winning 13 to 0, for a successful start. Then they went into their second league game playing host to the Silverton Foxes. The game ended with another win tucked under the belts of the Green and White, who were out in front 13 to 6. Jim Vickerman and Ron Kiggins hit pay-dirt in the first and second quarters. The Estacada team next journeyed to Molalla for the third and perhaps their closest and hardest fought League game of the season, with the Hangers edging the Indians 19 to 18. The touchdowns were made by a series of passes from Del to Ron and long gains by Jim Vickerman, Sarver, and Hayden. The fourth straight Willamette Valley League win for the Rangers was a 21 to 6 victory over the Sandy Pioneers on the home ground. Although the score was more than a slight margin, the Sandy defense did give the Rangers trouble throughout the game. Scorings were made by Ron Kiggins. Dmytryk. J. Vickerman and Nick Hayden. The Rangers' fifth League win was an outstanding offensive and defensive game with Del Kiggins pitching 16 out of 20 completed passes. helping thc Rangers top Mt. Angel 38 to 0. Buzz Randall. Jim Weston, and Jerry McMahon played outstanding defensive in the line. Denny Sarver. outstanding Sophomore halfback, suffered a broken leg and a dislocated knee in the Mt. Angel game and was unable to play the

The Rangers fielded a much stronger baseball team than expected and came through for a second place finish in the Willamette Valley League. We opened the season against the strong Molalla club with surprisingly good hitting to win 6 to 4. Bill Varitz's and Ron Kiggins, doubles gave us the scoring punch needed. Mt. Angel succumbed 6 to 4 after they held a 4 to 2 lead that melted when the hitters got the range again. Del Kiggins led the Rangers to a 4 to 2 win over the Canby Cougars for our third victory. The WVL champions from Dallas dropped a hard-hitting but poor fielding Ranger team for their first loss, 6 to 4. The Rangers traveled to Silverton to win a 3 to 1 game with Jim Miller, a sophomore pitcher, doing an outstanding job. Poor base- running brought on our second defeat by Sandy, 4 to 3. Estacada defeated Cascade Union 13 to 0. which put them into the semi-finals against a stronger St. Helens team. With a final tied score at 13 to 13. the statistician declared Estacada the winner hecause of more total net yardage. The Rangers ended their football season by losing to the Prineville Cowhoys 31 to 14, putting them in second place in the State A-2 division. Une of the highest honors in foothall was bestowed upon three of Estacada's players. Ron Kiggins, right end, and Del Kiggins, quarterback. were chosen for the Cosmopolitan All- Star team to play the State All-Stars in the Shrine game in Portland at the Multnomah Stadium. ,lim Vickerman was chosen as an alternate.
