The 1953-54 school year sees a continuation of winning ways of past years in F F A competition. The Estacada chapter is regarded as a constant threat in all F.F.A. con- tests and now owns forty-two banners and trophies from County, District, and State competition since the 1947-4-8 year. The livestock judging team won a second in the Clackamas County Jersey show. second in the Clackamas County Lamb show, third in the Columbia County Livestock show over twenty-three schools, third of thirty-one schools in the Clarkamas County Fair. and fifth in the State in the State Fair Dairy judging. The Estacada boys who were on the team two or more contests in livestock judging were Jesse Moore, who also won the State trophy for highest individual in the State contest. Robert Shook, Norman Clark, Cordon Schmidt. ,lames Coffield, James Chrys- ler, and George Weisgerber. Estacada again won the Columbia River District and Northwestern Oregon Public Speaking contest. George Bailey was the chapter speaker. He placed fourth ln the State speaking on Farm Safety.

The Estacada Corn Judging team placed lst in the County over nine other schools and 2nd in the State. We were State champions the two previous years. The State show was in Hermiston. Jesse Moore, James Chrysler, George Hull, James Heiple, Floyd Courtain, and Gary Ames were the team members. James Chrysler and Jesse Moore, working together as a demonstration team on '6The Care of the Sow and Litter,', placed 2nd at The Dalles Fat Stock Show. James Coffield won grand champion in the State with his prize Angus cow. He also won State champion beef showmanship award. The Chapter Parliamentary team placed 2nd in the Columbia River District contest over ten schools. Team members were George Weisgerber, Jesse Moore, Gary Ames, James Chrysler, James Heiple, and Charles Coxe. Alternates were Buzz Randall, Floyd Courtain, Don Frost, Richard Miller, Robert Shook, Gordon Schmidt, and Joe Mueller. Among the social events was the Annual Parent-and-Son Banquet. George Bailey did a masterful job as the master of ceremonies. Over 170 people attended. The local boys, 22 strong, went on a summer trip to Bonneville, The Dalles, Redmondis Deschutes County Fair, Suttle Lake, Brightenbush Hot Springs, Detroit Dam and home-three days in all. The Chapter FFA basketball team is again in operation with but one defeat for the A squad and none for the Bi, squad at the time of writing. Estacada Chapter this year has 63 members, nearly half the boys in school. Many of these boys were not listed as team members, but their fine spirit of competition helped our teams do better in all contests. The present public spaker has been selected.
