Senior Co-Capt Bart Couture. The 1984 season turned out to be an outstanding one for Essex Soccer. Lead by captains Bart Couture and Peter Putre, the Hornets went head to head with rival South Burlington in the State Championship game. Although losing that game, Essex rolled through a successful regular season winning 9 games, tying 4, and losing 4. In addition to the senior captains, the class of '85 featured solid performances offensively from Jim Bonnette, Phil Landler, and Craig Wilcox. Defensively, Essex was lead by Rick Yates, Tom Cavallari, Dave Pennycook, Chris Roy, and Greg Lyon. Senior exchange students, Ricardo De Bescoa and Martin Cravener provided an international flavor to the squad. Senior assistant coach Jim Wadleigh, whose insight and organization were critical to the team's success, will not be able to be replaced for the '85 season. Jay Brady L-R: J. The Essex JV and Varsity Boys' Cross Country teams blend a wealth of youthful talent with an experienced group of quality leaders and runners. The team has trained with pride and determination. This effort has established our team as a top contender in Vermont. The JV boys' 17-1 record and the Varsity boy's 15-3 record attest this success. Most importantly, the team has learned to view team achievement as a greater goal than individual achievement. Positive attitude and hard work have insured success.
