Girls Varsity Soccer Back: Jean Couture, Tina Marcoux, Marnie Laubach, Jackie Kuney, Lisa Williams, Jenn Overton, Amy Wells (Capt.), Debby Canty (Capt.). Laura Allaire (Capt.), Gina Halpin, Coach O'Neil. Middle: Jen Meyers, Mau Bhattacharyya, Julie Gagnon, Jenn Cross, Karen Allard, Paula Yates, Sarah Dahl, Kris Isham. Front: Danielle Pheeney, Anne Tromblee. The 1984 Soccer team, captained by seniors Amy Wells, Deb Canty, and Laura Allaire, finished the season with a record of twelve wins, two losses, and three ties. The third tie was the overtime, quadruple sudden death contest with CVU which gained this team the title of Co-State Champions. This title was the reward for a season of hard work and dedication to a cause. The team developed unity and precision as the season went on. Twenty-two individuals became a unit which sought and gained success. With the exception of two regular season losses to CVU and tie games with Mount Mansfield and South Burlington, the Hornets defeated North Country twice, St. Albans twice, Colchester three times. Missisquoi twice. Mount Mansfield, South Burlington and Burlington once. The departing seniors will be missed. However Chubby and Curly will be back.

Boys Varsity Soccer Back:Coach Brady, Jim Wadleigh, Brian Kane, Phil Landler, Mike Desilets, Jim Bonnette, Lewis Cove, David Pennycook, Dave Johnson. Peter Putre, Rick Yates, Bart Couture. Middle: Scott Mills, Eric Hathaway, Jim Harton, Jeff Harton, Chris Bousquet, Chad Poland, Chris Roy, Tom Cavallari, Gregg Lyons. Front: Craig Wilcox, Pat Flanagan, Mike Liberty. Senior Co-Capt Bart Couture. The 1984 season turned out to be an outstanding one for Essex Soccer. Lead by captains Bart Couture and Peter Putre, the Hornets went head to head with rival South Burlington in the State Championship game. Although losing that game, Essex rolled through a successful regular season winning 9 games, tying 4, and losing 4. In addition to the senior captains, the class of '85 featured solid performances offensively from Jim Bonnette, Phil Landler, and Craig Wilcox. Defensively, Essex was lead by Rick Yates, Tom Cavallari, Dave Pennycook, Chris Roy, and Greg Lyon. Senior exchange students, Ricardo De Bescoa and Martin Cravener provided an international flavor to the squad. Senior assistant coach Jim Wadleigh, whose insight and organization were critical to the team's success, will not be able to be replaced for the '85 season. Jay Brady L-R: J.
