Many students spent the previous night painstakingly braiding their hair to create unique, frizzed-out hairstyles. Frizz Day was initiated last year by the 1975 class, and due to its popularity is becoming a Fall Festival Tradition. 24 TUESDAY Sr. Hat and Shade Day Slave Day Slave Day was a new addition to Fall Festival this year. The seniors were sold to underclassmen and served them as their slaves for the entire day. THURSDAY: Greaser Day The ever-popular Greaser Day created an aura of the typical high school in the 50’s. Most students participated in greasing up and many attended the sock hop which was held during all three lunches on Thursday. As in the past it was one of the most successful days of Fall Festival. This feat placed them 3rd in the always competitive Northern League and also in the quarter finals of the Class-L State Tournament. They also won the Peru-Ausable (N.Y.) Invitational Holiday Tournament. A stunning 100-98 victory over league champion Rice High School on their home court initiated a 6 game winning streak to climax the season. Several school scoring records were broken in the aforementioned game, including Thad McCuins 40 point performance. ✓ 46 Frenchy The Fonz” JV BASKETBALL FRONT ROW (left to right): J. Wagner, G. Kilgore 174 175 IN MEMORIAM . . . to Steven Barnett a Member of the Class of 1976 Who Was Killed July 18,1975 RIDERS The surest thing there is is we are riders. And though none too successful at it, guiders. Through everything presented, land and tide And now the very air, of what we ride. What is this talked-of mystery of birth But being mounted bareback on the earth? We can just see the infant up astride. His small fist buried in the bushy hide. There is our wildest mount — a headless horse. But though it runs unbridled off its course. And all our brandishments would seem defied. We have ideas yet that we haven’t tried. I GOT IT! 199 HEY, WHO'S GOT THE BALL?I « § The Yearbook at Essex is really a collection of all the great people and fun times that our school contains. Cherish this book. Place a value on it that is higher than the quality of the pictures and the size of the type. We regret any mistakes we have made, but without our work and dedication, you would not have a book in front of you at this moment. I encourage all of you to contribute to next year's book with ideas, pictures, articles or just save your money so that everyone in the school will have a 1977 Yearbook. A few people working and buying it could make the Yearbook vanish from our halls. Many thanks go to our own Miss Crandall, Mr. Messier, and Mr. Emery for their work and to Mr. Sid Soren of Callahan Studios and Mr. Harry Clark of Taylor Publishing Company. Also to Peter Gove — I know of no one else who can take pictures with 15 minutes notice and I’m forever grateful to you!!! The Bicentennial Class of 1 976 is a very special class in more ways than one, and I’m proud to have been a part of it. With love, Helen 200 (Photo by Greg Doremus)
