THE TRI-SABRE 1965 ESSEX JUNCTION HIGH SCHOOL Essex Junction, Vermont I Mr. Donald Soderberg 2 Foreword These have been our years! We have lived, laughed, and worked every moment. Our 1965 Tri-Sabre can not show all the joys, frustrations, and struggles of the past four years. But it will try. ADMINISTRATION ROBERT ROULEAU Assistant Superintendent HAZEN WOOD Superintendent To the Graduating Class of 1965 The efforts of your teachers have been concentrated on preparing you for the future, with one thought in mind—that of assisting you in making the maximum use of your abilities while in school. However, you and the school must accept the fact that much of your success or failure was a result of your own efforts. Upon graduation from Essex Junction High School, that influence exerted by the teaching staff actively ceases to exist. Our interest in you will long continue. May you have reason to look back on your high school career, not only with fond memories, but with satisfaction. FREDERICK DIRMAIR Guidance Director CHESTER M. TAFT Principal The publication of this yearbook requires a variety of talents and cooperative effort demanded by few school activities. For the class of 1965 it should serve as a reminder of four of the most formative, and we hope, happiest years of your lives. My congratulation and best wishes to each of you. At present three candidates from Essex High School are anxiously waiting to see if they too can represent their country as an AFS student. Cross Country Although the Essex Junction High Cross Country team had a 2 and 5 season with double losses to Burlington and Rice, a single loss to Winooski, and a double win over South Burlington, the outlook for the future is extremely promising. The 1964 edition of the cross county team had no seniors, only three juniors, and a very promising crop of sophomores and freshmen led by the Jacobs brothers, Larry Kimball, and Pete Howe. The departing senior class would like to wish the best of luck to the future cross country teams. 85 Boys’ Baseball ™ST ROW: R. Gates, B. Durbrow, T. Bickmore, D. Roeder, D. Zehnacher, D. Holton, M. BASEBALL 1964 On the strength of returning lettermen and with help from several promising freshmen, Essex managed a winning season with double losses to only Burlington and Winooski. Essex also came up with dual wins over South Burlington, B.F.A. and Rice while splitting with Montpelier and Spaulding. Essex thus went 8 for 14 in a season which with a few breaks could have been much better. With the loss of only one senior starter and the development of several promising freshmen, Essex should have a very good season in ’65. 86 ANXIOUS MOMENTS Boys’ Baseball SAFE AT HOME ITS IN THE GLOVE ONE SPIT-BALL COMING UP 87 FIRST ROW: R. The team’s only losses came at the hands of C.V.U., which later proved to be state champions.
