Carpenter, Billy Lumpkin, Doodie Rouzie, Beverly Tuck, Marcia Gibson, Thomasine Harris, Mrs. Samans 15 ' i As anyone knows, working with students often demands all the patienee a teaeher can find, and then some. Many people have to be satisfied, not to mention the vast amount of time and energy that must be devoted. One of the teachers who gives his time and talent unselfishly is Mr. William Dockery. He may be reciting a passage of French history, or suggesting possible dates for SCA dances, or shooting pictures of school activities, or playing basketball. Often times, you may find him just “rapping”. Wherever you see “Doc”, you’re sure to see a bright smile, hear a friendly “hello”, or have your picture taken for a newspaper or yearbook. With all this, he still has time to be a real friend offering assistance freely. And so, we the class of 1972 thank you for being the great teacher and person you are. Thank you for making our days in school more pleasant and rememberable. With this in mind we proudly dedicate our 1972 yearbook to you, Mr. William “Doc” Dockery. Hold it. Smile. Nice picture. 16 VVV ' • ?mfmfTr n ' ' V « i n n r Mmtm mrt •f ii, . h;: vtr? rHnntnfci i , • f n ♦ .i ? ru ' Principal MR H. Pillsbury, E. Jones, Mrs. T. McCloskey The 1971 girls basketball season saw the change over from a six player team to five player. The new game was met with great enthusiasm, allowing more freedom for the players and enjoy- ment to players and spectators. The girls adapted well to the situation having a very successful season going into the tournament with a 6-2 record. This season’s team was probably one of the best Essex has had, despite the unexperience of game participation at its offset, however each player contributed one hundred percent effort and cooperation to produce a well coordi- nated team. The four graduating seniors, Agnes Andrews, Sue Ball, Debbie Pillsbury and Betty Young, who were all starters, and Maretha Jones will be greatly missed, but with the able leadership of veteran Cora Jackson, and many hard working squad members and new recruits Essex girls hope to come up with another great team. Due to exhausting workouts and unity of effort, the girls tracks’ team had one of the most successful years in E.H.S. history, capping the season with winning the district trophy for the second time. The picture on the preceeding page show the team in their hard earned uniforms. The team held several hake sales, a rummage sale and some team members even pumped gas to earn money for the new uniforms.
