Here is a glimpse of the conviviality, the spirit of togetherness, the animation of learning, the lingering friendships, the fun of living, the warmth and richness of a year past. Here is an intimation of the spirit of competition, the acceptance of responsibility, and the active participation that compound your activities. Your laughter, your dreams, your youthful enthusiasm tempered by your quest of knowledge and your growing maturity have molded this book. Your lofty ideals have aimed its pur- pose high. Here is seen the sparkle of life that mirrors the glow of personality. May you find your present joys and your future hopes expressed in these pages. 13 19 33 67 90 75 4 5 6 3 TO OUR PARENTS When all our other debts are paid Our greatest debt will still be due For sacrifices you have made And cares that we have brought to you. We have been slow to understand the patience and the love and pride With which for our sakes you have planned. Your own ambitions put aside. When others have withheld from us The praise that we have longed to hear You, Dad and Mom, have been generous And glad to speak the word of cheer. With eager efforts you have sought To smooth our paths and make them fair; Unselfishly expecting naught In payment for your tender care. We have been slow to learn, but now, With recollections that are sweet. We weave a laurel for your brow And lay our tribute at your feet. JCnooj ecfqe Crowns Chose Oho Seeh CfeC ■ ALMA MATER Oh Essex brave, dear Essex true, With earnest hearts we pledge to you Our pride, our love, our loyalty i Through endless day and to destiny. Chorus , . . Oh Essex grave, dear Essex free Oh Essex is the place for me ; When it is time for me to die Just bring me here and let me lie. I We know you can never fail us ; And we shall never fail you i For you we sing, Oh Essex true, I We had great victory always for you. 5 Tyecficaiion — 1966 Ui er Every young adult needs someone who serves as a guide and example in the uncertainty and de- cision-making of early adulthood. R. McDaniel Sponsor Mr. Ronald Jordan l onsor The 1966 Tiger may well be said to be another outstanding product of Essex High School. To be sure the job was no easy one and many hours of fun and hard work is throughout its lay- out. This year ' s Tiger is new in several ways: the seal of the school is being used as a cover design, introducing color for the end sheets, bigger size and other new attractions that have en- hanced its beauty. At periodical work sessions you find the staff members la- boring over layouts, sorting pictures, taking pictures, and doing other jobs which have been fun, rewarding, and we hope worth- while.
