BRYANT ELECTRIC Star third baseman on the Varsity Baseball team, and made the All-County and State Baseball Teams. He was one of the instiga- tors of the Year Book and served as Chair- man of that committee. The Dance Com- mittee of the Student Organization was another of his activities. He also participated in interclass games. r-'OOIGCA IGB'-'E Im-ni-I-O4 I-4'-IZGOG W-mmm:-1-1 MELVIN BLACK AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE Spike is a good fellow and a fine friend. He has ambitions of tying up with Uncle Sam and carving himself a career in the Navv. SAVERIO RAYMOND BURSESE Tool. AND DIE MAKING Bright Eyes is a good looking boy who had a fine sense of humor and could be depended upon to take a joke. In school he always worked hard and won honorable mention in the Ford contest. He also sang in the Glee Club. DONALD JOHN CRIGHTON AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE Tall, ambling Don did not participate in many of our extra-curricular activities be- cause of the distance from his home. He did play in the Band. He likes to go hunting and his ambition is to own a Cadillac convertible. GORDON LEE CRONIN MACHINE SHOP Gordon is a nice likeable fellow. He played Intramural Baseball. He played on that famous ninth-grade team that was the champion for their grade and also beat all tenth and eleventh grade contestants but finally succumbed to the ignoble defeat of 27 to 0 by Brick. Cronin likes Hshing and we'll bet he is good at it as he is such a quiet patient person. '04 '-4'-IZCIOO Nmmmtds l OO.'T-OCD EGU'-'E IOI11 xp, FRANK A. COPPOLA PRINTING Frank is a shy lad who minds his own business and can always be depended upon when it comes to getting out :I job. He is really a very nice person to know. EUGENE WILLIAM CORISH CARPENTRY Slugging first baseman of the Varsity Baseball team! He has been active in the Student Council having represented his class at the meetings throughout his entire course. Gene is endowed with one of those fine tenor voices and has contributed a great deal to the Glee Club. He has been Music Editor for the Vo-Tech News and kept us informed weekly of the activities of the Band and Glee Club. The Year Book Committee was another of his activities. JAMES A. CROTTY, JR. Euscrmc jim is one of the stage electricians. He has done many a good job throughout the school. He was a member of the crew that put the conduit into the Chemistry Depart- ment. Some job, wasn't it, jim? He is a quiet and friendly person and well-liked in the school. EDWARD JOHN DAY PRINTING Ed is always trying. Everything he does, he tries to do his very best. CRUMBLEY ELECTRIC Timber was the Captain of the Varsity Basketball team. He served as a Delegate to the Student Council. Bob was another of those who got the Year Book underway and served on the committee. He was a member of the Dance Committee for the Student Organization and has recently been a Dance Instructor. Interclass Basketball was another of his activities. ANTHONY DELLA SALA TOOL AND Dua MAKING The Bossman was Vice-President of the Student Council and also played on the base- ball team. He played Intramural Baseball and lntramural Basketball. I JOHN GERALD DE PALMA PRINTING John was Secretary of the Student Council. He was a member of the Year Book Com- mittee. Intramural Basketball was his sports activity. The Senior Class elected him their Secretary. He is well liked and a good friend. CHESTER DLUGOSZ CABINET Chet is a small fellow but his big hear: makes up for his lack of height. Cher is the go-getter of the Cabinet Department - dIdn't he sell more tickets for the shows than anyone else in his class? He is well liked, and whenever he does any- thing he tries to do it his best. He wants to be a top notch printer. A ROBERT GIBBS AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE Bob is a nice guy to know and he is well liked by his classmates. His ambition is to make the money his friends think he already has. Bob is one of the many boys from our school that has joined the Air Force. ANTHONY CARMEN GIORGIO MACHINE SHOP A smooth guy known to his classmates as a politician. Tony has boxed on the school Boxing Team and was a Student Council Delegate for his class. HOOIOUJ ICD'-'E EGI11'-I-04 I-4'-IZCIOC5 P4l'r1CDwl'1'1 RICHARD GRABOWSKI BRICKLAYING Garbo , a hard-hitting, fast outfielder, helped Newark win a lot of games. He also was a catcher. He played on the Basketball team. He is always ready to help his team- mates. JOSEPH HAROLD GREEN CABINET joe is a quiet reserved boy in class. He makes friendsxasily and is fond of girls. He served as a member of the Deputy Patrol and was a Delegate to the Student Council for his class. Joe also played on the Intra- mural Basketball team. . .-., I ,...a...,. If-f.e.t.. OLIVER HEATH AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE Oliver is a nice friendly fellow who likes to save his money. He is a boy who will probably go far outside of school. He sang in the Glee Club and was a Delegate to the Student Council for his class. ROBERT HAMER BRICKLAYING Bob always wears a smile. He is very jolly and has many friends. He sings with the Glee Club. He played basketball with the junior Varsity. Bob wants to be a top notch brick layer and support his parents when they get old. L-'OOI0w IGB'-I Inn-I-1-O4 I-4'-IZGO0 bsrncnwrn rf. RAYMOND HAUSER MECHANICAL DRAFTING Ray is a quiet sort of fellow, but he certainly can get into a lot of activities. He played on the Basketball team and was known as the playmaker of the team. He also was a good pitcher on the Varsity Base- ball Team. He is President of the Senior Class and one of the more active boys in the school. He won most of the baseball games for us. ARTHUR HUDOCK PRINTING Hudock is a little fellow but a good basket- ball player. He follows basketball and likes L. I. U. He is a fast worker and we expect that he will go far in the printing trade. N JOHN HUGHES, JR. PIIOTOc.RAPIIY Johnny was an active delegate to the Student Council. He was Co-Captain Of the Track Team. Johnny was a very good member of the Year Book Committee espeei' ally in the field of photography. He is rated as one of the best photographers of the school. FRANK JAKOSITZ PRINTING Frank is a small boy but carries a lot of power in his speech. He is known for his ability to keep the Print boys in line. He also can play baseball. He was one of the best pitchers the Varsity Team had. Bennie wants to be a good auto mechanic. JOHN E. JENKINS AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE Johnny is a bo who is ver hand with Y Y Y tools and does a lor of work with his hands His ambition is to own a garage of his own He also likes and does a great deal of wood- work. I SAMUEL KURUS TOOL AND DIE MAKING Russian was a boy that couldn't partici- pate in after school activities because he was so busy working. He is now employed in the Western Electric Company. Sam could always be depended upon to take a joke and to give one, too. He is also in the National Guard. He participated in the contest spon- sored by the National Association of Metal- lurgists. AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE Billy is a boy who makes friends easily. His hobby is taking care of pigeons. He wants to make something of himself when he gets out of school. X 1:4 ROBERT MACK ELECTRIC Drummer Boy as he is called by his friends was our chief stage electrician. He has worked on many electrical repair jobs around the school, such as running the A. C. line from the basement three floors up. What fun going through the concrete! Mack has also played in interclass games. JOHN ANTHONY MANTLIK TOOL AND DIE MAKING John is a very hard worker in school. He was a Delegate to the Student Council and a Delegate representing his class at the Senior Class meetings. LEWIS CABINET Lew is one of the most active students in the school. He has been Delegate to the Student Council for his class. He played catcher for the Varsity Baseball Team. He was also on the Varsity Basketball Team. The Dance Committee for the Student Council was another of his activities. He was elected Vice-President of the Senior Class and also served his class on the Ring Com- mittee. The Year Book Committee was an- other of his efforts to which he gave un- stintingly of his time. DONALD MITCHELL CABINET Don is a hard worker in his shop. He can give a joke and also take one. He played in the Intramural Basketball League. He wants to be a businessman. JOSEPH MOREHOUSE, JR. PHOTOGRAPHY Wheel is a good photographer, but he is also a clown. He is a fast man. He ran for the Track Team for two years. He was a Delegate to the Student Council for three years. He wants to be a Roller Derby skater. THEODORE STANLEY MOSTEK CARPENTRY Moose is the outdoor typeg if he isn't hunting, he's fishing. He played Intramural He wants to be a good carpenter. Nmwmm ZGOO 4 O4 Emma HE IQ Oinw FO FRANK MAZZOCCHI ELECTRIC Frank is one of our most promising boys in the electrical field. He has assisted in many jobs throughout the school, such as installing the A. C. line from the basement to the third floor, and the blower. He is another of those boys who has the long bus trip each day from Morris County. MELVIN MOSES RESTAURANT AND CAITETERIA Moe wants to be a chef, also a business- man. He keeps insisting, Nobody gives you nothing. We wish him luck. .. 1 I ' I L VITO CARMEN NAPPI MACHINE SHOP Doc is the lady killer of the Drafting Class. Some day he is going to take a girl out and be stuck with her for life. Doc left our school for the service in the Navy during the War and we were happy to wel- come him back in our class. Now that Uncle Sam has him in the Army we all wish him the best of luck. By the way, his ambition is, To live off the fat of the land. JAMES WILLIAM NEWNI-IAM PRINTING jimmy is the short fellow with the hearty laugh. His ambition is to be an offset man. We all hope he gets a good chance to reach this goal. SHERMAN PORTER ELECTRIC Prancer , an all around man, played on the Basketball Teamg also played Intramural Basketball. He is now Assistant Basketball Coach. Sherman is President of Student Council and Treasurer of the Senior Class. He was on the Entertainment Committee for Student Council. He helped on che Year Book Committee. Best of luck to him in the Air Force. STANLEY POLITOWICZ AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE 'Stan is a fine mechanic. If his hobby is really wrecking cars then he should drive a Stock car and certainly to drive one he would have to know how to hx junks. He won the silver gloves in the school boxing matches. We wish him luck in ettin ' g g into the U. S. Air Force. BENJAMIN RICHARDSON, JR. PHOTOGRAPHY Buddy is a lady killer. He is going out for the Baseball Team, and we wish him luck. He is a good photographer and we are grateful for the help he gave to the Year Book staff. 46 NICHOLAS FRANK SANZONE BRICKLAYING Nick has a good voice and he sings with the Glee Club. He is also a Delegate to Student Council. His hobby is model rail- roading. His ambition is to start a construc- tion company. JOHN SANTARCANGELO AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE John is the nice quiet guy who always says, You can't nght City Hall. XVe think he is right. His hobby is photography. And his ambition is to be a good mechanic. He wants V only one thing and that is to be a good mechanic. DANIEL SCUTARY RESTAURANT AND CAEETERIA Moose', is a nice guy to have around as he is always willing to help his friends. He is a member of the National Guard. He wants to be a cook and we all wish him luck. LEROY SHOCKLEY MACHINE SHOP Roy plays a good trumpet and was a good member of the Band. He was a boxer and took part in our boxing matches. He has been missed the last few months but we are all wishing hum a quick recovery and that he will be back with us before graduation. GEORGE DALE SHORT TOOL AND DIE MAKING Shorty,' is one of those reserved types- a good dependable worker. He likes to read sports stories. Keep up the good work. ANDREW STRELEC AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE Gump is a pin Collector. He's got all types of pins. He is quite Il hunter. He wants to run an auto store and sell parts. ROBERT EUGENE SUTER MACHINE SI-IOP Bob has an unusual hobby. He is a gunsmith. He played Intramural Baseball. His ambition is to be a good machinist. PAUL THOMPSON AUTOMOT'IVE REPAIR AND SERVICE Paul is a quiet person. His hobby is to keep Fords running. His ambition is to own an auto-wrecking lot. He drove :I truck after school. While Thompson didn't get into many of our school activities he managed to stay out of trouble. BENEDICT JOSEPH TIZZA NO CABINET Bennie helped the Cabinet Class win the Intramural Basketball League champion- ship. He likes to collect coins. 1 EDWARD VEGA AUTOMOTIVE REIIAIX AND SERVICE Eddie is a fine mechanic and is always fixing his friends cars. He was a class leader, and sang in the Glee Club for three years. He was also a Delegate to the Student Coun- cil for four years. WILLIAM jOHN VINCENT PRINTING Vinnie is an intelligent boy who is al- ways clowning. He is the Don Juan of the class. He was Delegate to the Student Council for his class and also Delegate to the ,Senior Class meetings for his group. He is very popular and very well liked. IAMES WASHINGTON AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND SERVICE james believes in putting his training to good practical purposes. He had a job last summer as a chauffeur. He likes to collect records. Now he wants to join the Air Force. WILFRED WILKINSON MACHINE SHOP Willie,' is a tall blond fellow who was mostly interested in his shop work when he was here. He is now out on a full-time job and we wish him luck. FRANCIS LEO WILLIAMS PHOTOGRAPHY Chubby', is the executive type. He ex- pects to own his photo shop and hire some- body else to do the work. I8 N1 71,! l y . . . . . 7 3 9 ' gil-v-1 + Clfifl g FCLC Track whlch IS the newest sport m this school was started 1n the sprmg of 1949 by Mr Hank Ryan At that txme Mr Ryan was teaching Health In our 1n1t1al season he came up wlth a good start wmmng 3 out of 6 dual meets The team won two meets from Our Lady of the Valley and defeated East Side I-hgh School for the1r other vlctory The three losses came at the hands of Barrlnger Umon and Nutley Hlgh Schools In June 1949 Mr Ryan transferred to Irvington Tech and Mr George OConnor replaced hlm as the Health Teacher and Coach of the Clnder Sport Durmg hls first season he came up wlth a team that fimshed w1th 2 wms and 4 losses Fne of the meets were dual Two reasons for thns poor season were that Mr O Connor had a small number of boys on the team and we took part m field events agamst other schools Our boys had no ex perlence wnth field events but they declded to take a chance We made out good nn the runnmg events but the polnts scored agamst us m the field events was the difference ln the final outcome Thls season Mr O'Connor expects to have a larger team and he hopes to have access to the Boys Park for practlce nn the field events as well as runnmg. fl! ' 9 ML Cfufllgky is a 6'4 center who played for the Varsity Basket- ball team three seasons and' scored a total of 309 points. He is one of the better all-around players to play for this school. .szerman porfer made the Varsity Basketball team in his second year after a season with the jayVee's. Although he was not a regular starter Sherman was awarded two Varsity letters. annie Jeanneffe earned his Varsity letter last year as a pitcher on the Baseball team. He won two games and lost none and should have a good season this year. gene Coriok won a Varsity letter in Baseball last year as a first baseman. Gene who played only seven games last season will probably start at Hrst this year. He will also be one of the long ball hitters of the team. 3011? mega Safa became a member of the Varsity Baseball team last season after playing with the JayVees. Tony hopes to see more action this year and should better his last season's record. 'lflifhe Egan: won his Varsity lcttcrs on the diamond during the ,49, '50, and '51 seasons. Bill stole fifteen bases last season and batted .382. Willie was selected as a second string third baseman on the All-County Team. JOAN .uughed earned his Varsity letter in Track. He ran mainly in the half-mile and mile relays. John ran two seasons but will be sidelined this year with a heart ailment. His absence will be a loss to the team. oe W0reAou5e also ran for the Track team in the half-mile and mile relays. He ran for two years and has two Varsity letters for the Cinder sport. ,gay cjlauzier earned Varsity letters in two sports since he came to this school two years ago. In Baseball as a starting pitcher, he pitched a one-hit shutout for his best game. Ray is considered as one of the best pitchers to come out of Tech in along time. He also played Basketball in his senior year. eorge eawiri has been outstanding as a jayVee in Basketball. Lou earned his Varsity letter in Baseball as a first string catcher, batting .306. OQCLCJQFLS I 'F' 9 'W i YW i 1 1' Q J M LJ ART In the Commercial Art Course major emphasis is placed on manual accomplishments in the skills involved in art production with a minor emphasis on original design and the technical features of composition, display, and color theory. Training is given in the use of such methods as silk screen process of reproduction, air brush operation, re- touching of photographs, and general art work in commercial art establishments. In Advertising Art there are two distinct sub- divisions under the heading of advertising: first, the manual reproduction processes such as hand lettering, layout, use of stencils and air brush, the silk screen process, and second, mechanical repro- duction processes such as, photography, litho- graphy, offset printing, letter press printing and news print. PHOTOGRAPHY Commercial Photography includes professional pho- tography or the making and selling of pictures, photogra- phic equipment and supplies, demonstrating photographic equipment and materials, and photograhic finishing, re- touching, and coloring. Techincal Photography covers the work given in Commercial Photography and in addition includes techni- cal jobs in the printing, developing, retouching and enlarg- ing of pictures. PRINTING This course offers the opportunity to secure the fundamental knowledge needed to become a compositor, a pressman, and an offset pressman. The Techincal Printing course includes the training for a compositor, pressman, and offset pressman, and also training for an offset photographer and a plate maker. MECHANICAL DRAFTING AND ELEMENTS OF MACHINE DESIGN Th1S course attempts to produce Well rounded draftsmen by gwxng them a varlety of shop experrences as well as a thorough tfalrllng m draftrng techmcs It alms to gnve a groundmg 1n draftmg board techn1c 1n shop pracuces ln mathematlcs and 1n scxence Some work 1n plant draftmg and 1n bulldmg constructron IS mcluded BRICKLAYING, PLASTERING AND CONCRETE WORK CABINET WORK The cabinet shop is equipped with modern woodworking machinery and there is in the finishing room a modern spray booth. This course includes instruction in making scale drawings, making a layout from the draw- ing, completing the job from the layout, and estimating and computing the cost of both materials and labor. This course includes bricklaying, plaster- ing, and concrete work because in ordinary house construction the same man frequently does all three types of work. In addition to the broad practical training, such things as plan reading and estimating, designing and fashioning of beautiful fireplaces and arches are included. ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR This is a comprehensive course with train-' ing for the great variety of jobs in electrical maintenance, repair and testing which are found in the electrical machinery repair, shops and in the manufacturing industries and public utility corporations. CARPENTRY The carpentry course includes work on everything from the rough frame construc- tion and the building of concrete forms to line interior trim including built-in cabi- nets and cupboards. The purpose of this course is to train workers who are com- petent in all branches of the trade including the ability to read plans and to make details from architects' drawings. The Technical Industrial Electricity course offers a thorough grounding in the fundamentals necessary to understand existing technics in the field of electricity in- cluding the application of electronics to a great variety of industrial control devices, and provides a solid foundation to base an understanding of new technics as they are developed. MACHINE SHOP PRACTICE This course covers instruction in the operation of standard machine shop equip- ment including drill presses, engine lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, shapers, turret lathes, hand screw machines, automatic screw machines, and Contour sawing and filing equipment. Machine shop science, shop mathematics and blue print reading are also important subjects of the COLIFSC. TOOL AND DIE MAKING This course includes the operation of the equipment of the standard machine shop and provides the technical instruction neces- sary for future work as a tool and die maker.
