Responsible for its success has been the adoption of the two-band system: ex- perienced musicians assume player status, while others strive for varsity recognition. This year, besides keeping its annual ap- pointment at the Archdiocesan Holy Name Parade, the band was accorded the honor of performing in New York's St. Patrick's Day Parade. To no one's sur- prise, this has become the tend- ency nowadays among other schools with the advent of Essex Catholic as a major power in forensic competition. The Ora- tory and Debate teams, how- ever, did not let the taste of victory overwhelm them. Instead they proceeded to practice early in the season, thus foretelling a brilliant year in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity divisions. And, let it be known, Oratory and Debate, as an interscholas- tic activity has finally come of age here at Essex.
