ENGINEERING, DEPARTMENT Throughout ESSEX's cruise, the men of the Engineer- ing Department have deserved a hearty WELL DONE for an outstanding njob done in performing the many func- tions essential to the operation of the ship. In addition to our own work, many hours were spent by the Engineers in repairing and manufacturing equipment and parts for the six destroyers in our task group. Being away from home for long periods of time is always difficult, but Engineering personnel have used the time to broaden their knowledge and skills in their rates as well as meeting many new people and seeing new places. In looking back over the cruise, we can well remember the hectic momentsspent while transiting the Elbe River, when had it not been for alert Snipes below, all the ship's electricity would have been lost. After leaving Ham- burg, we may think of the expert 'repair work done by the Department in repairing much. of the damage caused by heavyiseas while enroute to Rota, Spain. g . .Now that werare back home again we can reminisce over our cr,ui.se,'remembering all the good times we had, E nd have the satisfaction that we did an excellent- job a E E - , g .
