Also, you are the most enthusiastic, school-spirited class that I have seen in a long time. Your dedication, class activities and projects have brought a new spirit to our high school and have influenced the classes that follow you. I am grateful to each of you and to the leadership given to you by your class advisors and officers. Collectively, you have been a very successful class of which I am very proud. I am sure that each one of you will find individual success in the future, and I hope that your education and experiences here will be a basis for that success. Sincerely, 16 Helen M. POTTER 1930-1988 It was on Tuesday, February 23, 1988, that we lost our director of 14 years. Raymond F. Potter was more than just a director, he was one of the Aggie’s best friends. Mr. Potter started at the Aggie in 1956 as a related subjects teacher, football, and basketball coach. In 1965 he moved to the position of education manager. He then became our director, in 1974, a position that he held for 14 years up to his death this year. During the past 4 years at the Aggie, he devoted a lot of time and effort into updating and bringing the Aggie into the 1980’s. Some of the things we may remember most were his efforts to give us a new horse arena and horticulture building. He was also very active in the new county jail site selection issue, always having the Aggie’s best interest at heart. It was stated by a teacher that the Aggie has lost more than just a director, it has also lost a good friend. As I look back over the many times I spent in his office talking about the Aggie, I can’t help but think that the void created by his death will be hard to fill. Ray Potter loved this school. It and all it’s students stood for were very much in the forefront of his mind. Mr. Potter leaves his wife, Antoinette, and 2 sons, Michael and Steven. DENNIS L. WRIGHT STUDENT MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SHELBY D. PEARSON TREASURER OF THE ESSEX CHAPTER SADD Every year the yearbook committee asks the director to write a few words for the yearbook. Mr. Potter wrote this to the class of 1988 just a few months before his death.: It is my pleasure to contribute in some small way to the yearbook for the class of 1988. I know that since entering as freshman you have all experienced changes, adjustments, and progress. All of these have allowed you to expand your horizons and work toward your individual goals for the future. I am sure that the education you have received at this school will serve as a firm foundation for your future ac- complishments. I wish you well!! RAYMOND F. SADD educates students concerning the problem of drinking and driving and helps each student become aware of the alcohol problems as they exist on the local, state and national levels. THE SADD FACTS ABOUT DRUNK DRIVING - One-quarter of a million Americans have lost their lives in alcohol-related auto crashes over the past decade — an average of 25,000 traffic fatalities each year. - 700,000 Americans are injured each year by intoxicated drivers. - The DWI problem creates an estimated economic cost to society of over $5 billion annually. - Thousands of teenagers and young adults lose their lives each year in drunk driving incidents and 40,000 are injured. SADD GOALS SADD has four goals: 1. to eliminate the drunk driver and save lives. 2. to alert high school students to the dangers of drinking and driving. 3. to conduct community alcohol awareness programs. 4. to help organize peer counseling programs to help students who may have concerns about alcohol. THE SADD PROGRAM A very important part of the SADD program involves a contract entered into by parents and students. Students pledge to call parents for advice or transportation at any hour, from any place, if they are ever in a situation where they have had too much to drink or if the person driving has had too much to drink. The parents, in turn, agree to provide transportation home, or taxi fare home, at any hour, or any place, with no questions asked or argument given. Discussion at a later time, of course, would be appropriate. In addition, parents agree to seek safe, sober transportation if they, or the person driving them, have had too much to drink. rh, Class Clowns Kathy Moran and Bob Clarke NES Pr nm ran 81 Best Sense Of Humor Kathy Moran and Bob Clarke Most Talkative Cassie Fillipon and Fred Hooper Most Likely to Succeed Laura Flammia and Dennis Wright Most Class Spirit Allison Merritt and Ian O’Neal Shyest Nancy Metz and Andy Connelly Class Flirts Rhonda Fundeklian and Rafael Ayala Paul Sweeney and Kathy Moran Friendliest Nicest Eyes Most Studio Tanya Spaneas and Mike Makowski Best Looking Tanya Spaneas and Bob Mason Best Dressed Heather McFarlane and Dennis Wright din setting ohana iene Riek. cae oiis: ee ee Teacher’s Pet Julie Telford and Dennis Wright Jennis Wright and Cyndi Severance Class Couple Heather McFarlane and Bob Mason Most Outgoing Bob Clarke and Allison Merritt Best Smile Mike Makowski and Debi Tanzer 85 86 SENIOR PROM ead April 7, 1988 ad 87 ) 3 € « 9 CO CO Se cal oS ound 2 © == Sand o} — She EN 102 co =°SG000660008 , 4 103 Tt ye, 104 Rafael Ayala leaves nothing in tact.
