To the members of the Class of 1972: As you approach the culmination of your education at ‘‘Essex Ag- gie’’ I hope that you will make the right choice of the road to follow in the next phase of your career development. You have completed a vocational — technical program which has enabled you to attain the purposeful goals of a secondary education and at the same time the kind and quality of operational and deci- sionmaking competencies that are basically essential in your career field. Congratulations. You will soon be separated from friends, surroundings, and activities which you have enjoyed during these last four years. May I suggest that you maintain these relationships by occasional visits to the campus to renew your association with teachers and other employees of the Institute. You can also make a serious effort to retain your personal relationships with classmate s. By so doing, you will maintain and continue your present friendships. Please remember that you belong to the ““Essex Family” and you can always rely on us for career guidance, em- ployment opportunities, or additional training. Stay with us — wecan help you. I am sure that you have had happy and profitable days here at Essex and this Yearbook will, in the days and years ahead, enable you to cherish these memories. This book is a precious treasure — keep it safe. Best wishes for the attainments of your career aims and for fulfillment in your personal life in the years ahead. Director

SA DORmME Sr Mr. Jake Ranta was much respected and revered by those of us in the senior class who come in contact with him. He was always available for information whether or not it per- tained to our major field. We soon discovered the breadth of his knowledge, and the facility he exhibited in transmitting his skills to us. His acknowledged excellence in the field of breeding his patience with us as neophytes made our intro- duction to Animal Science a pleasurable experience. It was not uncommon to hear last year’s graduates singing Mr. Ranta’s praises. If a word is necessary for description, we are in agreement that “‘nice’’ was the word for Mr. Ranta.
