STANDING: Coach Churchill, D. Wonoski, K. Commer, D. O’connell, K. Brown, D. Conners, Mer. F. Gitchier. KNEELING: S. Tinkham, G. Burke, W. Walsh, G. Simpson, D. Harvey, B. Cote, M. Arenburg, J. Cavatorta, Absent F. Richard. 1971-72 EATI Hockey Season This season proved to be a development year. We lost most of our starting team from last year and conse- quently fielded a very young team this season. The team was co-captained by senior Drew O’Connell and junior Gary Simpson. The season proved to be a costly one; both injury wise and record wise. By the middle of the season we had several broken bones and one severe back injury. Many players with little game experience were called upon to replace injured players and their efforts meant much to the team. This year for the first time two Most Valuable Player awards were given. One was given to Drew O’Connell who continually dis- played his great desire to win. Drew was the high scorer on the team and his offensive ability sparked the team. The other MVP went to Gary Burke who throughout the season lead the team with good heady play. Both of these players contributed all they had and their contri- butions will be remembered. Gary Simpson continued to hold up the defense and Ken Wonoski showed the most promise offensively. Next year the team will be playing in the new Cape Ann Hockey League, with games to be played at the new sports facility at Merri- mack College. The team wishes to thank all of their supporters. 10

FRONT: D. Rollins, G. Cervinek, B. Daigle, J. Noll, M. Spilman. BACK: Mr. Kramer, M. Morse, R. Murphy, R. Rieser, M. Bonauto, F. Reynolds. An excellent performance was given this year by sophomore Mike Bonauito. Mike arrived in prime condition this fall as a result of his partispation in the “Jog and Log” program during the summer. The jog and log program is employed to condition runners for the Sept. meets. Mike recorded four miles per day during the summer months of June, July and August. Other students have indicated their interest to start in the conditioning program during the summer of 72’. Four juniors are to be commended for their depend- able service this year. Along with Mike these people were there faithful for practice. Gordon Cerninck, Bob Daigle, John Nill and Richard Rieser. Few peo- ple knew that Richard continued to run with a severe leg injury until he was forced to stay at home because of doctors orders. Two of our freshman bolstered the team this year by placing often in the meets. The boys are Dan Barry and Fred Reynolds, are excellent prospects for next yearteam. The Competion will be more eqitable in 1072 but we need more runners. 12
