To the Members of the Class of 1970: Salutations to you on the successful completion of your course in Agriculture. You now have a foundation of general and vocational competencies and it is a good beginning. Some of you will go directly into the world of work, either before or after your Military Service, and the career starts for others will be delayed for further education. Hence, we are at the parting of the ways, and it seems that this is an appropriate time to say to you that probably no previous graduating class has ever been faced with the problems now confronting you in this era of social turmoil and economic confusion. This will be a time when your morals and principles will be tested. Social values are in the process of change, and what has been considered to be right will be challenged constantly in the days ahead. As participants in this era of social evolution, I counsel you to keep open minds and let your judgment be guided by the principles and lessons learned through your experiences at home, in your community, and here at Essex. And now, some timely suggestions: Make education a continuing process by keeping up-to-date in your chosen career field. Hold fast to the friendships you have made by maintaining associations with continuing attention. And, finally, remember that this school is interested in you and your career. Keep in touch with your many friends on the staff, and join your Alumni Association, in which I hope you will become active. Director Best wishes!

The passing of Miss Ursula E. O’Callaghan, 46, of Lynn January 13, 1970, saddened her many friends. Miss O’Callaghan had served as telephone operator for the past eight years, and was known to the thousands of persons who have contact with the Institute. She was exceptionally proficient in her work and the art of communications. Her contributions in these areas during the expansion of physical facilities and educational programs at the Institute were very significant. Her loss is deeply and sincerely felt by her many friends here and outside the school.

May 22, 1970 Congratulations to the Class of 1970 Although one of the smallest classes, in number, that Essex has produced in recent years, I am happy to extend to you my sincere regards for the future. You have been a pleasure to work with and it is my hope that you will carry your enthusiasm with you for many rewarding years. This yearbook, in itself, is an example of the work done by the class of 1970. It depicts many of the exciting experiences and attainments during the school year. [agro A Raymond F.
