YVith all the latest improvements, the new structure houses boys' and girls' gym dressing rooms, a kitchen and lnnchroom, two new classrooms, sun- porches, a basketball court and bleach- ers for 252 spectators. The stage has all the latest equipment--even two make- up rooms for the drama class. There is a regular projection room for showing motion pictures. The brilliant, proscen- inm arch over the stage, the modernistic chandeliers, and the tiled drinking fountains add color to the building as a whole. They Will remember classes reserved almost entirely for males-tinkering with car- bnretors over in Mr. Look's Farm shop, making the saw screech in Mr. Kliewer's wood- shop, and hoeing weeds for agri- enltnre in the shade of the old avocado trees. Then there was the boys' cooking class where they donned caps and aprons and made cakes with lots of icing and things boys like to eat. Of course, there were the classes they shared with the girls- English, math and history- where the main object was to sit by the prettiest girl in the room or to tease the others. The football team made a, far better showing than theii scores indicated. The varsity basketballers placed third in League competition vvhili the Cougar 'l3's won the championship. The baseball nine captured the League penani tor the fourth consecutive year. The cinder path squad placed well in League competi tion. The varsity squad missed winning the dual meet championship by one point anc in addition nosed out such potent teams as Hoover Higrh and Excelsior. The Bis and C': showed well in League standings. The minor sports activities reached their peak in thi Athletic Carnival. Girls' activities reached a, new high in interest and competition XVith successful athletic teams and school spirit excelling in all departments, Escondido' 1938-39 sports season was one of tl1e most successful in history. Cougars Show Fight New Coach McEuen greeted large turnout but only three returning veterans as the season started. September 14. Cougars won three. lost six.
