Escambia's 86-87 volleyball team has best year since Escambia high has been known. They were a great bunch of players who had a great desire to be good at volleyball and to win, commented Coach Amy Ca- baniss. The girls volleyball team ended the season with an 8-7 record. This was the first year they had a win- ning season in the last six years, along with being 6-1 in the district. Jennifer Bailey, senior and Barbara Dobbins, junior were selected as players of the season by the News olleyball team best ever Journal. Volleyball has definitely improved Within the last year, con- tinues Coach Cabaniss. Coach Cabaniss did notassign any one or two players as captain nor co- captain definitely Each game she went by players grades, practice and effort before choosing. To raise money for the team they held a vol- leyball serve-a-thon. HI feel we have a very young team pulling together and have come a long wayf' stated Barbara Dobbins, junior. The '86 Lady Gator softball team finished its season with a 7-11 re- cord. Having the talent such as we've had has given us an advan- tage, stated Andi Olsen, senior. This was Coach Amy Cabaniss's first year as softball coach at Es- cambia, along with other sports she has taken over. 'Tm sure next year will be even better now that Coach Cabaniss is in charge and has taken over, it just takes alot of effort and hard work, continued Olsen. I was and still am very excited about being the new girls softball coach, commented Coach Caban- iss. Our team is yolmg, willing to X- Talent gave Lady Gators advantage work and eager to do well for the school and each other. Coach commented on the perfor- mance of the whole team. Therefore cooperation is most important to make the team work. The outcome for tryouts was tre- mendous. Two cuts were required in order to choose a team carefully and to see how talented each and every- one really was. The team was cho- sen before the Christmas holidays and the games started in February. Coach Cabaniss is the greatest, commented Pam McQu.inton, senior.
