The '86 Varsity baseball team fin- ished its season with a 13-11 record. The team won its last five regular games including a couple of shut outs. We had a lot of talent last year, we thought we had a chance at state, but it just wasn't there, ex- plained Kent Brock, short stop. Next year we have a chance to take -- --- state! The '86 season was a great year for the boys and girls track teams. Both teams won the District 1 and Region l Track Championships. The boys team ran to four place wins, three second place shows, and three third place finishes. The boys place second in the state meet with the help of the State Champion 440 relay team consisting of: Shawn Cu- liver, Emmitt Smith, Greg Thorn- hill, and Marzette Porterfield. We came together and finished strong, thanks to good coaching and team workl, commented Alex Brown, ju- nior. Coach Scott Watson was select- ed as the Pensacola News Journal S Boys Track coach of the year. The girls posted four first place victories, four second place finishes and one third place show during the year. They finished twenty-second in the state meet in Winter Park, Florida. A large part of our fgirls teamj success was due to the teams unity and the dedication of Coach Autry, stated Tracy Parks, junior.
