In the history of Escambia there has never been an ath- lete as outstanding as Emmitt Smith. In his four years at Es- cambia he has achieved one of the best all-time rushing re- cords, surpassing Billy Sims to become the third best rusher in High School football history, In his high school career, on 1,144 attempts, he gained 8,804 yards, for a 7.6 average on each carry. Emmit had 103 rushing touchdowns, 3 receiv- ing touchdowns, for a total of 106 touchdowns in four foot- ball seasons. All of this, and he only fumbled 6 times. To add to this Emmitt has re- ceived numerous awards. Among these were Golden Hel- ment awards, National Player of the Year by Gatorade and Quaker Oats Companies, USA Today Offensive Player of the Year in the United States. Lindyls Southeastern United States Player of the Year for America, and many, many more. Emmit Smith signed with the University of Florida. We on the yearbook staff wish Em- mitt a successful career and the best of luck. We are very proud to have graduated and known you and we back you all the way - GO GATORS!!! 24

Thanks!!!!!!!!! There are so many people we have to thank. We really do not know where to start. A million - thousand thanks to Miss Billingsley and Mrs. Gross. We did it!!! But we couldnlt have without your help. Now you've got permis- sion to have a mental breakdown. A big thanks to all the editors and staff members. You all really came through when We needed you. Now, clear your room of all yearbook lay- outs, cropping pencils, black pens, rubber cement, etc. John, we really owe you a big one. All of those pictures and time you spent on us. We appreciate it! May you never shoot an important assign- ment without loading the camera. We would like to thank the admin- istration and faculty for their toler- ance. Maybe now we can attend class instead of work on deadlines. A special good luck to Karen and Tonya. May your yearbook deadlines be met and your staff always late! Mr. Kennedy and Delmar, what more can we say? You stood by us and understood our dilemma, and kept us out of certain disaster. Above all else, we thank Miss Wrenn!
