Mrs. Dorthy Tampary returns for her seventh year as sponsor for Es- cambia's Science club. According to Mrs. Tampary, Encouraging fur- ther interest in science, science re- search and exposing members to science activities around our com- munity and state, was her main goal as sponsor for the year. Escambia Junior Academy of Sci- ence, the official name of the sci- ence club, consisted of 35 members. These members sponsored the schools science fair and worked at the regional science fair. Also, the science club sold Gator hats and made spirit signs for many football games. For the 1986-87 school year EJ AS was named the presidential chapter for the state organization. There has been a very positive response to membership and par- ticipation in the science club activi- ties, stated Jana Redish, presi- dent. We hope to see them contin- ue. Clubs, important to EHS One ofthe major extracurricular ac- tivities at Escambia High are clubs. They range from service to academic. Overall there are about 28 different clubs at EHS. I think that the idea of clubs is good, stated Michele White, senior. They provide a chance to make new friends and release some of the pressures of school life. The list of requirements varies from club to club. In academics it is re- quired to have at least a 3.0 or 3.5 G.RA. in all classes or in the specific subject. For service clubs, a student needs only to have a G.PA. of 2 5 to et , Af -. .24 s- ',-1-. . jf . . g in and matain a 2.0. Let's not forget that all clubs have dedicated spon- sors. This year's Surf Club had 40 members. The main goal we hope for is to improve our surfing, stated Boyd Westerman, president. The Surf Club was a strong sup- porter of our football team by mak- ing spirit signs and being active in pep rallies. Surf Club participated in many different fund raising pro- jects throughout this year. Among them Were car washes, and surfing contest for the high schools in the area. Sponsors Hopes Lie in As long as the surf is up, the members cooperate well together, stated Mrs. Vicki Schular. To be in Surf Club a member had to maintain a grade point average of 1.7 through- out the year.
