The boys basketball team was holding a 12-8 record during mid February with five games remain- ing. This year 's team success total- ly depends on our senior leadership. and team defense, commented Coach Norm Ross. The teams wins were against: West Palm Beach Forest Hill, Nice- ville, Tate, Gulf Breeze, PHS, Wood- ham, Milton, and Sumter County High. Their losses were to: Ocala Forest, Kissimmee Osceola, Moss Point Mississippi, Pine Forest, Mil- ton, and Washington. They also par- ticipated in some tournaments. Fellow Gators Maurice Webster and Kevin Dale were honored with awards during the season. Kevin was selected to the All-Tournament teams in the Breeders Cup Tourna- 7 ., :Wh e .zr:,-'Z r ' ' 7 fl. I think our play this year is com- ing along very quickly and team play is advancing with each game,', ex- plained Maurice. We must maintain a high level of unity among our team to rewach our goals. The team members include nine seniors, four juniors, and two sopho- mores. The freshman football team fin- ished the season with a 6-1 record. That was one game improvement over last years record. Our team goal was to strive to improve everyday, explained Coach Roger Mayo, head football coach. I told them if they did this Winning would take care of itself. I felt the 6-1 record indicates we achieved that goal. The Baby Gators wins came from victories against: Washington, 24-19, Woodham, 7-0, Pensacola, 21- 0: Milton 14-0, Gulf Breeze, 7-0, and Tate, 29-8. The teams only loss was to Pine Forest, 0-6. Freshman team I think we did great! We all played as a team not as an individ- ual, commented Mike McClain. g'We had three of the best coaches pushing us to be the best. The team consist of 47 players. The two assistant coaches were Mickey Hudson and Paul McEwan. The three managers were Tony Ba- ker, Darrel Askew, and James Knight. I felt the team became funda- mentally sound and performed bet- ter each week.
