For the first time in Escambia High Schoolls history there was a girls soccer team. The team finished the season with a 0-1-3 recrod. This team has improved greatly over the past year, explained Mr. William Christofferson, head coach. We went from five exper- ienced and eleven unexperienced players to a team that can compete in the district. The team consisted of 17 mem- bers including: one junior, 15 sopho- mores, and one freshman. Even though we are a first year team, we got in there and showed them that We have Gator spirit! ex- plained Robin Barrow, sophomore. .V soccer gains playing experience This year 's J .V soccer team end- ed the season with a 0-5-4 record. HI feel that team work and functioning as awhole is one of the most impor- tant things to accomplish in any sport, comments Coach Paul McEwen. Victory is not the most impor- tant thing to obtain in a J .V game, exclaims Coach McEwen to gain valuable playing experience, to help next year 's team is . . . The team 's ties were with Pine Forest 0-0, Tate 0-0, Washington 1-1. Escambia Highis weightlifting team, in it,s third year of competi- tion, finished with a 2-3 record, and also placed second in the county lev- el and fourth in state level. We are getting better each year, last year We placed fifth in the state, and this year fourth in the state, commented Coach Phil Lanfurd. Escambia had six participants that qualified for the state meet. L 2 Weightlifting team places in district, state Lammar Williams placed first, Pat Moore placed second, Tim Lewis placed twelfth, Shawn Cross placed thirteenth, and Barry Melvin placed twenty first. I really enjoyed Working with the weightlifting team this past year, explained Mike Bainter. The Weightlifting team has really im- proved after last year, not just in strength but in unityi' 'U 2.
