I enjoyed the close relationship with the coach, Ed Edwards-Most Valuable Line The Championship year was really great. Iwish Iwere a five year man. Milt Tiffin-Most Valuable Back This football season was most rewarding from several stand points. First of all, we won the championship. In so doing our team established itself as one of the best in our school's history. Our overall record speaks for it- self. Second, our team displayed an outstanding attitude towards fair play and sportsmanship. Finally, this past season was a fine example of what can be accomplished as a result of hard work, cooperation, and self-discipline. Bob Loureiro-Coach TVL TITLE Sept. Escalon Ripon Sept. They started the year by selling bumper stickers which said Escalon Cougars and were purple and gold. This was to raise money for the prom and their trip to Disneyland next year Many of the juniors took the practice Scho- lastic Aptitude-National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, a grueling four hour ex- amination covering everything they ever learned in school and some things they hadn't. The tests give them a preview of the Scholastic Aptitude Test, in which a certain score is required in their senior year for admission to colleges, and hope- fully qualified a few jtuiiors for a prestigi- ous National Merit Scholarship. The prom was held April 22, 1972, in the Riverbank Community Center. The theme was A Time For Us . The most technically complicated production ever attempted at Escalon, director Edward Mulvihill began constructing stage props on New Year's Day. Members of the cast assisted in putting up the set, a combined effort which transformed the east end of the gym into a Grand Fenwicken throne room, and 2 small offices. The play is about a tiny European duchy, Grand Fenwick, whose only export is wine. An American vinter begins putting out a cheap imitation which ruins the duchy's economy and results in war between the two countries f a war begun by the duchy with the idea of being restored to economic health after it loses to the United Statesj. Plans go awry, however, and re- sult in the Fenwickians winning the war by invading New York City with bows and arrows and capturing a nuclear physicist, an army general, and the Q Bomb, the most powerful weapon in the world. We Wish to thank Mr. Wilson for his photo- graphy and for his helping our student photo- graphers. In this book there are many changes from past editions of EL ESCALON, Some are large, some are small, some are so minor that they are hardly noticeable. For the student body of Escalon High School there have also been changes. Our biggest change was the rotating schedule. It was from this that we derived our theme The Circle Game. The change that affected us most was the addition of a staff to assist in the production of the year- book. The EL ESCALON this year is the combined effort of nearly twenty persons instead of two. We feel that the staff has been an asset to the EL ESCA LON because it has broadened the scope of design and presentation of campus events. Besides teach- ing practically every course ever offered, Mr. Lutz has been involved in various other careers: he played in vaudeville with bands such as Dave Brubeck, and he now owns and manages several apartments, Mr, Lutz is retiring this year to travel with the lovely lady he met, pro- posed to, and married over 25 years ago. He has been greatly involved with the community, Mr. Skiles has worked at various car and body shops in the area. He has performed with his church choir and in the com- munity performance of the Messiah, Athletics are one of his favorite pastimes and Mr, Skiles still enjoys a lively game of bowling.
