As freshmen, we were led by Gerald Prater, in our sophomore year Ronald Knepp was elected President, and as juniors, Ray Sciaroni was our class Prexy. During our junior year we presented the play, Act Your Age. We also honored the seniors with the junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Then we finally became seniors. We chose Bill Cabral as our President, Bill Helton, Vice President, Dixie Skiles, Secretary, and james jones, Treasurer. Miss Repetto and Mr. Lutz were chosen as our Advisors. The senior play, Second Fiddle, was a huge success. We also had loads of fun on Senior Ditch day and being honored at the junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. We were represented on the C.S.F. by Helon Krebs, Mary Middleton, jean Gonzales, Wyvonee Butler, jerry Barton, Norbert Hackett, Floyd Birchler and Ronald Knepp. The senior class has also done its part in producing outstanding athletes such as Ronald Knepp, Leroy Rampoldi, Bill Cabral, Harold Pope, Ray Sciaroni, Norbert Hackett, Elwin Koch, Gerald Prater, Frank Sherman, Jerry Barton, Ray Puccetti, james Best, and Bill Helton. These boys have played an important part in athletics here at Escalon High, and this year they climaxed it by winning the Football Championship. Looking back on our four years at Escalon High School, we shall always have a fond place in our hearts for the friends we have made and the memorable times we have enjoyed. Unquestionably this was the greatest team in the history of Escalon High. They ended the season with a record of nine straight wins and no defeats, while compiling a total of 2,715 yards from rushing and passing compared with 940 to their opponents, scoring 284 points while their op- ponents scored 25. Our first league game was held at the turf of our most respected rivals, the Ripon Indians. Gerald Prater intercepted a pass early in the game to score and start the team rolling. Leroy Rampoldi and Manuel Lial then helped with 2 more T.D.'s to end the first quarter. Lial and Richard Berdion each scored a touchdown in the second period, and the half ended with Escalon ahead 33-0. Bill Cabral scored the last T.D., to make the final score 39-0. The Gustine Redskins were the next team to be mowed down by the merciless Cougars. This time the score was 33-0. ' Our next game was held on the field of one of the toughest teams in Northern Californiag a team that had nearly forgotten what it was to lose. Los Banos had won 27 straight ball games which was the longest string in Northern California. Leroy Rampoldi broke over tackle for 64 yards to the Los Banos 8, where Gerald Prater passed to Manuel Lial in the end zone. Prater continued his aerial attack to put the pigskin deep down in Los Banos territory where the fullback Ed. Pereira drove into the end zone. The final 2 touchdowns were scored on a combination that worked 3 times that day: passes from Prater to Lial. When the final gun sounded, Escalon had defeated the Mighty Los Banos Tigers by a score of 27-0. Escalon continued their winning ways at the expense of the Linden Lions, in a practice game, drubbing them 52-0. This was the fifth straight game Escalon had not been scored upon. The Championship bound Cougars then traveled to Patterson to take on a very fired up team. There was no scoring the first quarter, but Patterson picked up Escalon fumbles and ran them back for two touchdowns. When the half ended the score was 12-7 in their favor. But our Cougars came roaring back in the second half to score 7 times and defeat Patterson by a score of 52-12. The Hilmar Yellowjackets traveled to the home field of the Escalon Cougars where they received a warm reception, but unfortunately came out on the short end of a 32-0 score. Our final game of the season was played on a muddy Hughson turf. With mud and water up to their shoe-tops, the Cougars broke the mighty Hughson jinx by dumping them 19-6. Escalon ended the season with 13 consecutive victories. We landed 4 players on the All Conference First Team, and 2 on the Second Team. Guard Ronnie Knepp, Halfback Leroy Rampoldi, End Bill Cabral, and Q.B. Gerald Prater made the First Team, while Guard Bill Bales and Center Elwin Koch made the Second Team. Leroy Rampoldi received honorable mention for the All Northern California Team. The San Francisco Examiner picked us as the Number One Team in Northern California for small schools while the S.F. Chronicle picked us as the number 13 team for both large and small schools. The Students of Escalon High School are deeply grateful to Mr. Engel and Mr. Bee- man, for not only did they produce a great football team but their team showed the kind of sportsmanship that made us very proud of them. Three of these losses were over-timesg two to Ceres by three points each, and one to Denair by one point. The team will lose seven boys through graduation. Gerald Prater, Harold Pope, Ronald Knepp, Luigi DaDalt, Jerry Barton, Leroy Rampoldi, and Norbert Hackett. jerry Barton was voted outstanding player and captain for the year. The B's had a wonderful season, winning 17 and losing none, and took the Championship of the B division from Los Banos by the score of 43 to 40. They now have a winning streak of 29 consecutive games over a two year period. Larry Powers was voted outstanding player and captain for the year. Two players from this squad will graduate this year: Ray Puccetti and Ray Sciaroni. The C team won five and lost five and had a fair sea- son. They beat Oakdale once to help their prestige. They didn't however have as good a season as did the D's who took Championship of their division by winning all ten games of their schedule and were awarded silver basket- i balls for this feat. Very hearty congratulations go to Coach Ferdinandsen for doing such a wonderful job in the Basketball department of our school. Two Championships in one season proves that he really has done a great job. i Top row: W. Engel, A. Hof, N. Hackett, Mr. Ferclinandsen R Knepp H Pope L DaDalt. Second row: G. Prater, J. Barton, L.
