Myron D, Cottam Dear Studentbody, we can all be proud of the achievements and progress Escalante High School has made this year. Through much effort and cooperation of students, staff and community, our school continues to improve. Most all students who desire to participate in school activites may do so. They thus have the opportunity to develop many skills that enhance their academ program. Academically, our students compare favorably with national standards. Student attitude and spirit have been excellent this year. The pride contest has been a hard-fought battle, with each class competing for positive goals relating to improving education and community spirit. Our students have earned the reputation of not giving up. They, along with the community, played a major role in passing a bond issue that will result in a new high school for Escalante. It has been a united effort by the community of which we can all be proud. In March, 1987, Escalante High School was evaluated by a team of 12 people from the Northwest Accreditation Association. We were commended for having a good school and were accredited. Together, we the community, students, and staff, have accomplished many importa goals for education in Escalante and together we can accomplish much more for our students in the years to come. Sincerely yours, Myron D. Cottam, Principal ADMIIIISTIIMIDII Ullll SUPEIIIIITEIIDMIT Dear Escalante Students: what a tremendous opportunity to be counted as an Escalante Moqui, a friend and Superintendent of your school. A few presidents ago, President Eisenhower said HThe education of all citizens is imperative to the maintenance and invigoration of America's free institutions.u Then President Kennedy stated that uEducation is both the foundation and the unifying force of our democratic way of life. It is at the same time the MOST profitable investment society can make and the richest reward it can confer.H Then Kennedy was assassinated and President Johnson said HNothing matters more to the future of our country than education. Not our military preparedness - for armed power is worthless if we lack the brain power to build a world of peace. Not our productive economy - for we cannot sustain growth without trained manpower. Not our democratic system of government - for freedom is fragile if citizens are ignorant.n Ford, Carter and Reagan have all followed suit with similar charges. Today's Escalante Moquis must always remember that however sophisticated our nuclear arsenals and our commitment to world peace, we will never be first in defense, trade or world domination if we settle for second best in education. As dealers in precious co modities - UYOUH - I urge you to continue to strive for educational superiority. You, the Escalante High School Moquis are the leaders of tomorrow. So much rests upon your ability to reach for the stars. May you cherish your Escalante High School experiences and have this motto to carry you forward: There is no chance, no destiny, Jerold Judd no fate, that can circumvent, hinder or control the firm resolve of a 2 Administration detemi ned SOUL
