Pere FLYLAT 2S Now that youare about ready tobe graduated from high school, you. are valmost ready to take your first solo flight into the unpredictable future. As your flight instructor, it is my job to pass on a few pointers before your take-off. The flight ahead may or may not be an easy one. Perhaps you may have rough air to navigate, perhaps a fewforced landings, but whatever lies ahead, your trip will be more smooth if you will navigate by these instruments. First, the Compass of Courage. You must have courage to take a tough job and do it well, courage to set your standards high, courage tolive by those stand- ards no matter what the rest of the crowd say or do, and courage to set a good example. Anyone can drift, but it takes real courage to stick up for what you know in your heart is right. Check your compass often. Second, the Automatic Pilot--Patience. Without this instrument you cannot fly a straight and level course. You must have patience to see things through to completion, If everything you have worked for seems to fail, patience will help you to:pick up the pieces; and try again and again Until me OUmsUCce Ome mOnIy) failure is in no longer trying. There is a right time and place for everything. Have patience to wait for the opportunities God gives us all. Third, the Altimeter of Faith. With this instrument you can soar to any height. You must have faith in yourself, first of all, to believe that you can handle your- selfin any challenge life hands you. This is half the battle. Have faith in the future, in your church, and in your family and friends. Help them to have faith in you too. There will be times when even these instruments seem to fail. It is then that you must radio to Head Control Tower Operator for directions. Trust Him. He will keep you on the beam no matter how rough the weather becomes. Now it’s time to turn the controls over to you. I wish you a smooth, swift flight and happy landings. Your friend and principal, bell EF Dr. Norwood E. Jones
