Dedication It is in a proud and reflective mood that we, the Senior Class of 1966, pause to honor a teacher whose concern and devotion for us has made our high school years more pur- poseful, for this person has truly recognized the high responsibility and joy of teaching, Giving of herself has in no way diminished her supply of helpfulness, imagination, and concern, Through her smile and ready wit, we see her joy in life and people. Hoping somehow to partially pay her for the faith she has shown in us, the Senior Class of 1966 wishes to dedicate this edition of the HOURGLASS to MRS, BEULAH TEW POPE

p Dr, Norwood Earl Jones Dear Seniors: If, in your high school education, you have acquired a min- ium of fundamental knowledge and skills -- skill in handling source materials, ability to think an d act in the presence of unprecedented situations, and an ethical attitude toward theuse of your knowledge and skills-- you have acquired the basic education necessary for a fair start in life. You are afforded the high privilege of living during one of the great times in history, but with privilege comes responsibility. Let me put it like this, with sober, startling frankness and Clarity: It may be that God has entrusted you personally and individually with a particular mission to perform, It may make a difference to all eternity what you do! In the differing days ahead for each of you there will be problems, Let no one try to tell you that life is meant to be easy, Life is not easy, and it is not perfectly ordered, Every man is the trustee of the life entrusted to him. How he discharges this personal trust is his test. It is possible for. many of you to go through life without ever realizing that you are undergoing a test, without recognizing your responsibilities, Through the way you live your lives, you can make a con- tribution to mankind’s eternal progress, It may not be spectacular, but it counts, The efforts you make to live more purposefully, more nobly, entitle you to feel that in some measure at least you are discharging honorably the responsibility entrusted to you, The miracle or the power that elevates the few is to be found in their industry, application, and perseverance under the inner prompting of a brave and determined spirit. Sincerely yours, Ngwlood fe Norwood E, Jones Principal ae
