Class Slistory Historian: Judy Raynor Tomorrow Beckons Today's Builders It was on September 2, 1958, that a group of 92 wild but frightened Freshmen entered the doors of Erwin High School, Feeling out of place in our new home for the next four years, we were anxious to make a good impression on our teachers and upperclassmen, As soon as we were familiar with the routine, we elected the following class officers; President, Joe Morgan; Vice-President, Donald Morrison; Secretary, Carolyn Tyson; Treasurer, Nancy Lucas; and Sergeant-at-arms, George Bolton, Many of our class joined various clubs and organizations, We had eight members on the Student Council; E, W, Williams, Carolyn Tyson, Judith Prince, Dorinda Avery, Faye Parker, Mike Dubis, Mitchell Dennis, and Billy Walters, Our class was well represented in the FHA with Carolyn Tyson as Secretary; Sharon Murray, Parliamentarian; Faye Parker, Song Leader; and Brenda Raynor, Treasurer, In our Sophomore year our number increased to 104, Our sponsors were Mrs, Dwight Mattox, Mr, Harold Davis, and Mr, William Corbett. We elected the following class officers: President, Rickey Stewart; Vice- President, Mike Dubis; Secretary, Dorinda Avery; and Treasurer, Sharon Murray, Our Student Council repre- sentatives were Pam Strickland, Donald Morrison, Elizabeth Faircloth, Dorinda Avery, Mike Dubis, and Billy Walters, We had eight members that were tapped intothe Beta Club: Elizabeth Faircloth, Joyce Avery, Dorinda Avery, Carolyn Lucas, Millie Hall, Faye Parker, Brenda Pope, and Rickey Stewart, Carolyn McElveen was elected President of the FHA, with Faye Parker as Vice-President; Brenda Raynor, Secretary; and Delores Royal, Historian, In ourJunior year we filled 73 seats in chapel, Our sponsors were Mrs, Sarah Z, Hudson and Mr, Joe Wood- worth, Ready to begin an active year, we elected the following class officers: President, Mike Dubis; Vice- President, Jimmy Stephens; Secretary, Sharon Murray; and Treasurer, Dorinda Avery, Six members of our class represented us onthe Student Council: Sandra Wade, Joe Morgan, Billy Walters, Sharon Murray, Rickey Stewart, and Dorinda Avery, Rickey Stewart was chosen Vice-President with Dorinda Avery serving as Secretary, We elected Pam Strickland as Editor of the HI-LITE; Dorinda Avery, Assistant Editor; Sharon Murray, Business Manager; Joe Morgan, Circulation Manager; and Carolyn McElveen, Advertising Manager, Rickey Stewart was chosenas Vice-President of the Beta Club, Sharon Murray was elected as Secretary of the Monogram Club with Mike Dubis as Reporter, The Key Club chose Rickey Stewart as Vice-President, Randy Wicker was elected President of the Math Science Club with Mike Dubis as Vice-President and Joe Morgan as Secretary, Carolyn Tyson, Mike Dubis and Linda Johnson were tapped into the Beta Club, Sharon Murray was chosen Homecoming Queen, We had great success with our Christmas Cards sale, as well as with our play, “A Ready Made Family. We selected Hawaiian Cruise” as our theme for our traditional Junior and Senior Prom, Our Marshals were Elizabeth Faircloth, Chief; Mike Dubis; Bert Cameron; Bobby Hall; Dorinda Avery; Faye Parker; and Carolyn Tyson, After a wonderful year together as Juniors, we began to look forward to the next year when we would be Seniors, As Seniors we began our final year with a feeling of great superiority, eager to get started on this long awaited year with Mrs, Dorothy C, Ramos and Mr, Jerry G, Thomas as our sponsors, We chose the following class officers: President, Bobby Hall; Vice-President, Dickey Smith; Secretary, Linda Mason; Treasurer, Randy Wicker; and Sgt,-at-Arms, Billy Walters, We chose red and white as our class colors and the red rose as our flower, For our motto we chose Tomorrow Beckons Today's Builders, Our Student Council representatives were Jimmy Stephens, Sandra Wade, Judy Raynor, and E, W, Williams, Joe Morgan was elected President of the Student Council with Johnny Wilson as Treasurer, Linda Johnson was chosen Beta Club Treasurer, Bobby Hall was chosen FBLA President; Pam Strickland, Vice-President; Linda Mason, Secretary; Elizabeth Faircloth, Treasurer; and Carolyn McElveen, Historian, Gerald Jones was chosen President of the Key Club, Dickey Smith was electedFTA President; Billy Walters, Vice-President; Brenda Raynor, Secretary; and Donald Morrison, Treasurer, Joe Morgan was chosen President of the Inter-Club Council; Bobby Hall, Vice-President; and Linda Mason, Secretary and Treasurer, Billy Walters was elected Monogram Club President, and Dickey Smith, Secretary and Treasurer, The Library Club chose Kathy Avery as their President; Nancy Lucas, Secretary; and Barbara Spence, Reporter, We chose Dorinda Avery and Mike Dubis as Co-Editors of the HOURGLASS, Dorinda Avery also was chosen to receive the DAR Good Citizenship Award, Now that Graduation exercises have arrived, it is our parting hope that the memory of our class will remain alive inthe hearts of those classes to come, and we trust that those tangible and intangible things that we have gained in the past four years will enable our future to be even better than the past, 26

How would you like to go with me to one of the most outstanding reunions of the year? The only thing you have to do is close your eyes and “Dream Along With Me, We have just disembarked from one of the fastest jets in the world, It is owned and operated by one of our 1962 classmates, Jimmy Page, His lovely airline hostesses are none other than Barbara Spence and Betty Dor- man, They both live in New York City with their families, As we arrive at the big glamorous hotel we are greeted by our host and hostess, Jerry Bayles and Faye Parker, They are happily married and are known the world over as the Laughing Bells,” While greeting our old friends, we find that many of them have become a great success, Those handsome men standing by the door are Billy Walters, Dickey Smith, and Charles Talley, They have become professional football players for the Washington Redskins, Sidnia McKee has taken the place of the great Liberace as a pianist, She has her own television program called the Sidney Key Show. Rickey Stewart and Delores Royal have won many dancing trophies all over the world, They have joint. ownership in an Arthur Murray” studio and teach dancing lessons five days a week, The attractive young lady over in the corner is Dorinda Avery, She is a wealthy psychiatrist and a very dependable person, She and her husband live in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Guess who the head coach of the Washington Redskins is? It's the great hero himself, Mike Dubis! His many scholarships have won him much fame throughout the United States, The dignified looking women that have just arrived are Sharon Murray, Janice Avery, and Wanda Taylor, All of them have done well for themselves as secretaries for famous American Diplomats, What a beautiful dress Patsy Horne has on tonight! I understand that she is a famous model in Paris, France, She also designs many of the Paris fashions, Benny Hall has done very well for himself since he has taken over the Red Skelton show. Sandra Wade is his chief cartoonist, She also is the head of the Cartoon Department for Walt Disney. Carolyn McElveen and Gerald Jones have done wonders in Africa as missionaries, Our President has com- mended them on the fine work that they are doing abroad, Johnny Wilson seems to be doing fine with his books about the Civil War. He has already sold over a million copies of his latest book, WHEN THE BUGLE SOUNDED, Elizabeth Faircloth is doing a marvelous job in her teaching career, while Donald Morrison, her husband, is Dean of Erwin University, The young man surrounded by all those girls is Randy Wicker, well known producer in Hollywood, Last year he won an Academy Award for his wonderful productions, Among those who stayed in Erwin is Jimmy Stephens, He has recently become the coach of the Erwin Redskins , They still have the best team in the nation, Charles West is now the supervisor of Carl's Supermarket, He plans to have his own supermarket soon, One of our realcelebrities tonight is Pat Jones, He is making millions as a great artist, His work is similar to that of Michael Angelo's, Catherine Avery and Joyce avery are the head nurses at Rex Hospital, They are very patient with their patients, We see that Kathy Avery has a lovely suntan, She has her own cottage at Miami Beach where she spends most of her time, She is private secretary to Mr, Larry Wise, manager of the Erwin Insurance Agency. Harold Dorman and Keith Strickland are owners of the world's largest drive-in, the Frozen Custard, They have become quite wealthy. Tyrone Norris is the head of the Benson Mills Inc, in Benson, Wil ma Griffin, his private secretary, is mar- ried to a colonel in the Air Force and has five children, Joseph Miriello happens to be, by accident, the winner of the 1970's Liar Club, He has recently been chosen President, Linda Hamilton, an attractive young businesswoman, is still keeping her best beau guessing. She lives on the beautiful island of Hawaii, Bobby Hall has become a private investigator of Surfside Six at Miami Beach, but he spends most of his time on the beach, 27
