The picture above was the first game of the football season played at Clintwood . The picture above was the first daylight game in the history of Ervinton High School. Ervinton played Coeburn at home. 67 68 The girl ' s basketball team of Ervinton High School displayed tremendous improvement in their second year of interscholastic competition. Despite the fact they were competing against schools who had been playing for five years, the rebels were able to tie down fifth place in the district. Their regular season record was a very respectable 10-10 and the entire squad, which consisted of ten girls, gained a considerable amount of experience and self-assurance. Probably the most impressive factor concerning the season was the fact that so many of the girls involved were under-classmen. Only one senior, Regina Phillips, will be leaving. The rests of the squad, along with help from a promising Jr. varsity squad, expect to be contenders for the champi- onship next year. Our team was especially proud that Wanda Gulley was selected as a member of the All-District team, as well as being one of the leading scorers in the district. We hope you will understand and enjoy this edition even more. Five years have gone by pretty fast but these last thirty minutes seem like an eternity - we talk, we listen, we dream, we wonder, we hope, we pray, we despair, but this is our finest hour - we are adults and our burdens we gladly bear as we go forth into the main stream of life. After that last bell of the year there was no mad rush for the bus but time to say a leisurely good-by and take one last look around. 86 Cathy Burkett demonstrates model of the heart to class mates.
