Each year completes anoth- er chapter, and June, 1970, will bring to a close the memorable days of your High School Career. This should not mean the end of your education , but a golden beginning of higher education or training in College, Technical School or apprentice training. My congratulations to you in your completion of 12 years of study. 6 HUM! Our |Jrtnri|ml KENNETH M. SMITH To the Graduates: Congratulations to you the mem- bers of the Class of 1970 on the successful completion of requirements for graduation from Ervinton High School. I hope you have gained some small bit of learning that will enable you to adjust and to meet the challenges of the world of automation, space technology, and social change. Recognize and take advantage of the oppor- tunities that are yours for success. I sincerely wish that each student leaving Ervinton High School will reach the goals of his ambitions. Go forth as responsible, respectable, and God-fearing in- dividuals trying to make a worthwhile contribution to mankind. Kenneth M. Smith ©ur Assistant principal FARRELL C. SUTHERLAND TO THE GRADUATES: You will have the privilege of living in one of the most exciting, stimulating and turbulent periods in his- tory. Along with this privilege goes the responsibility of preparing yourself to meet and solve the many complex problems which this fast-moving civilization will thrust upon you. We hope that your years here at Ervinton High have given you a solid foundation on which to build a success- ful future, not only for yourselves but for your descendants as well. Whatever venture you may choose may you enter with honesty, sincerity, and respect toward your fellow man. Go forth toward a worthy goal, and remember - we get out of life exactly what we put into it. Farrell C. Sutherland 9 ($ur djjuihance Bepartment JESS LOCKHART B.S., E.T.S.U. In this life, there is a multitude of perils and pleasures that you are destined to meet, and often times, you will be hard pressed to handle these in spite of the vast amount of knowledge and wisdom you have acquired. When that time comes, remember patience and perseverance. If you want something done well select a busy man - because the other kind has no time. This scene is typical of many roads in Dickenson County through which school bus routes bring the students to Ervinton High School. Many students will long remember the majestic beauty of their neighbor- hoods and will feel a longing to return to the happy scenes of their high school days. As we go our separate ways we can only hope every- one will always enjoy the sunshine of success, but for some there will always be the snow and the mud and the wrong road. For all of us there will be times when the snow of hardship and frustration will blur our vision and dampen our spirit, but let us look beyond all this to the sunshine which will melt the snow, clear our vision and bring to us the joy of being alive. 97 in limn i ' ll mm 111 1 Min mi ii mu m mm hi i mi mu n 1 1 mm mi in 1 i in 1 1 § n j t • S fcgwg— - - r 13 J .‘JHr 1 CONGRATULATIONS to the SENIORS and FACULTY CLINCHFIELD COAL COMPANY Dante Virginia WDIC Route 1, Clintwood, Virginia The 1430 Spot on Your Dial Where All Smart Listeners Tune Compliments of Compliments of BOWLIN FLORIST LaPETITE BEAUTY SHOP Coeburn Virginia Clintwood Virginia COEBURN ESSO STATION MULLINS CONSTRUCTION CO.
