Only The Faces Have Changed Erskine’s tradition at times seems paradoxical. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The more things stay the same, the more they change. It seems like every week we, as students, are pounded with changes that may affect the rest of our lives. These changes on the outside make profound changes inside us as well. As members of the Erskine family, we all open ourselves to other people—friends, professors, even - our parents. That opening creates in every Erskine student the ability to change. Through conversations at the dinner table, on the swing at the circle, or in our classrooms, everyone is affected by the ideas and dreams of others. Although the inward and outward changes seem radical at times, the founding principles of the College remain the same. It seems that only the faces change; that the tradition remains constant. Yet the tradition changes all of us, and when we leave Due West, we are stronger for the changes we have experienced. The tradition will remain with each one of us as each one of us makes his mark on Erskine. The faces may change, but the tradition of excellence, quality and perseverance remains in each one of us as well as in Erskine.
