'QWZQQ Mr. Daley, like many others who labor quietly, yet with complete dedication to their task, has received little of the credit due him for his many years of service to Tech. Each year he has done his best to prepare his students for their role in life as draftsmen and in achieving an adult understanding of life. His success toward those ends is shown in many examples of former students who are now leading citizens and outstanding at their trade. Mr. Daley came to Tech in 1931 and has served Tech up to the present, except from 1944 to 1946, when he served as a draftsman at American Meter Company. As for his background at being a teacher, he received his bachelor's degree from Edinboro State Teachers' College and did grad- uate work from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Daley first started teaching at Ridgeway Boro High School. After that he taught at Hazelton City High School, and then came to Erie to teach drafting at Academy High School, from 1921 to 1931. We take our leave with many regrets, but knowing also that the future is much brighter because of the time spent here, the things done here. We are justly proud of what already has been achieved, but we are sobered by the fact that our present achievement is merely a foundation, a beginning, to the advanced skills and knowledge which distinguish the master craftsman. To the continuation of our training, we look forward with confidence, confidence justified by competent instruction in the fundamentals of our chosen occupations. Ahead are many complexities which all adults meet and must attempt to solveg we accept that challenge as a natural course of growing up. We are ready to move forward with assurance and optimism, secure in our knowledge that by the good quality of our training we are prepared to turn each new trial into a success. After our departure, at Tech there will remain undiminished opportu- nity to learn the knowledges and skills which portend so importantly to us now that the hour is at hand to bid all of you a reluctant farewell. At that solemn moment, we can think of no more significant advice than to urge as strongly as words permit that our juniors and sophomores make the most of that precious opportunity. FRESHMEN We stand in awe, surveying with ever increasing wonder, the many and varied opportunities unfolding before us. The pieces of life's mosaic are now starting to fall into place and the final pattern will be determined by the maturity and qualifications of the student involved. Blessed by a free society, a young American can build and shape his destiny in likeness to the concepts of his loftiest dream. It is his privilege to choose the career which appeals to him most, and he is free to pursue that interest with no other or greater restraint than his personal limi- tations. No young person is without his ultimate points of limitation, but those points can be long deferred by the individual who is determined to do his best. BAND For many years the band has been faithfully serving Tech by playing at football games, rallies, assemblies, and by representing their school in local civic activities. DRAMATICS CLUB The Dramatics Club was formed to give those students interested in any phase of drarnatics a chance to participate in the presentation of plays, both to the public and the student body. Andrezewski JUNIOR RED CROSS Each year the students at Tech become members of the Junior Red Cross through a membership drive in September and through performing services all during the year. Students in General Shop, Art, Drafting, Pat- ternmaking and Cabinet Shop were responsible for filling requests from the Erie Chapter. Nationally, Tech was honored by being chosen as the High School of the Month in the February issue of the Junior Red Cross Journal. SCHOLASTIC ART ENTRIES Each year the art students at Tech submit their best pieces of work into the National Scholastic Art Competition in Pittsburgh. Most of the seniors usually compete for scholarships which are available in the com- work sent in by Tech students equals or stands out above the best High School work ir. the nation. We hope that the seniors this year will do as petition, and get good financial starts in an acredited art school. The well in National Scholastics as did the seniors of previous years. Hogan, E Galeski. STUDENT SENATE The Student Senate is primarily a service organization. It exists to serve the student body of Tech. During the past year, the Student Senate has sponsored two skating parties which have had the dual purposes of providing social outlets for the pupils and of raising money for other worthwhile purposes. With funds raised, the Student Senate has financed four auditorium programs, two of them by professional performers. CHEERLEADERS VVith Janet Kessler as captain, our squad raced into the 1956 football season with the best cheering Tech High has ever had. After a roller- skating party, a tag week, and a sale of stationery, the squad took a breather . During this time a group of ninth grade boys led the cheers for our first two basketball games. The tasks performed by this group included arranging the stage, connecting the microphone, operating the record player and the film projector, and controlling the lights. In addition to the daily assemblies, these young men reported for work when the Follies and the Vanities were shown. Football team ended the season at Harbor Creek with a win. This gave them a season record of 3 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie. Their coaches, Mr. Ungerman and Mr. Buto, were especially impressed with the attendance record of the boys. The few absences during the season were due to injuries and the squad ended the season with a membership of 36-a new high for Tech J. V. Football. The boys did their best in every game of the season and a lot of their success can be credited to regular attendance at all practices. One of the more exciting games of the season was the Tech-McDowell game. WATER POLO If the 1956 Tech waterpolo team had been offered additional matches at the end of the regular season, they probably could have beaten any team that faced them. That might be a broad statement, but, as the season neared its end, there was team-work and power that showed itself in the victories over Prep and East. A prominent sports authority in the city said that our water polo team, this year, was the best Tech has had for ten years. Also worth mentioning is the fact that three of the squad made the All Scholastic Team. SWIMMING This year the swimming team was handicapped by the loss of just about the whole water polo team. Although the number was small the spirit was high and the boys practiced hard. They went into each meet with the determination to win. When the season ended, each swimmer had the satisfaction of knowing he had done his best for Tech. RosenthaL CROSS COUNTRY We are looking forward to a better season this year for we are losing only one experienced letterman, Howard Kemp, who is a senior and those runners who are returning are all lettermen. Because it is a sport which requires speed, stamina, skill and quick reflexes, more and more athletes are turning to tennis to keep in top physical condition.
