CLASS HI TORY The class of 1955 entered the halls of Erie High School in the fall of 1949 for the first time. Nine of the graduating thirteen formed the body of determined seventh gradersg determined, that is, not to be ruled by the seniors and determined to some day become seniors themselves. The seventh and eighth grades served as a breaking-in period before acceptance into actual high school life by way of initiation in the fall of the freshman year. After suffering many humiliations fand enjoying themj on this eventful occasion, the class of 1955 began what will some day be referred to as The Good Old Days at Erie High School. Raymond Beierle joined us during this year as a quiet and steady member of our class. ln our sophomore year as retaliation for the indignities imposed upon us as Fresh- men, we made the initiation of the new freshrnen something they will never forget. How- ever, the real high point of our sophomore year was ordering the long-awaited emblem of an Erie High School Student, namely our class rings. We eagerly awaited their ar- rival. Ages and ages passed, and we were ready to enter our junior year when the rings arrived in August of 1953. Our junior year was high-lighted by the presentation of Orchids and Onions in which we surprised ourselves at the talent we possessed. Onions became Orchids in a transformation from skirts and sweaters, jeans and shirts to floating formals accompanied by suits and ties at the Junior Class Prom. In keeping with the setting, the Bali-Hi, the South Pacific was brought to our western town. Tom Parker joined our ranks during this year to go on to that day to which we have looked forward to for twelve long years. At last, the final of these twelve years made its appearance. Fred Christensen and Joyce Brunz entered our class at the first of our last year in school. We were amazed and slightly disbelieving that our goal was nearly in sight. However, we had little time to think of graduation directly as there were many things left undone that must be finished, not only in the way of class work but in the way of making our marks so that we would always be remembered after our graduation. We promoted several sales campaigns in everything from sweaters to magazines, quite successfully, We also presented as our Senior Class play Aaron Slick From Punkin Crick which was every bit as good, if not better, than the movie production. Thoughts of graduation never really left our minds. Robes and announcements for the event were chosen in December. January found us posing for pictures as re- minders to family and friends that we had reached the stage of being young adults who had finished one of the most important tasks of life, finishing twelve years of education. Only four of the group have come all the way from the first grade of the Lincoln Grade School through the twelfth grade of Erie High School. They were Helen Castro, Marilyn Hanson, Jean McAfee, and Stella Metheney. HOWeVeI', We have all been friends united in one cause, one that has been a lot of work, a lot more play, and one that will always be remembered.
