In this department, there were five first graders, six second graders until Gretchen Bolmeier left in February, and five third graders. Three times a week, they, together with the intermediate room, had music. Their favorite song was the 'Morning Songn. Miss Wilcox organized a Rhythm Band Some of the songs they played were WPop Goes the Neasel' 'Tw1nkle, Twinkle Little Starn, and 'Shoemaker's Dancen A few songs were played for their mothers on the Mother's Day Program The second and third graders, made free hand pictures for e movie of 'Little Black Sambo' They made oilcloth portfolios for gifts for Christ mas and the first graders made dust cloths for their mothers They were all making valentines for members of their family near the first part of February They entertained ten pre school children for their Valent1ne's Party The third graders performed experiments lor their science stories in reading For penmanship, the second and third grades made a booklet con taining examples of each lesson in writing In October the pupils, accom panied by Miss Kressin, took a few nature hikes, on which they observed birds, insects, and plants INTERMEDIATE The intermediate room, for the school year of 1945 L6, was taught by Miss Nilcox There were six fourth graders, five fifth graders until Ron ald Judlsch left, and six sixth graders In the fall of the year, all the grades made tree leaf booklets with samples from the common trees of this locality This was done as part of their SC1EHC 6 work All the grades made free hand maps of the countries they studied for geography Before Christmas, the pupils made oilcloth lapel pins, and various articles of wood craft for gifts for members of their family These boys and girls along with the primary children had music three times a week They sang for a Farmer's Union meeting in the fall Their favorite song was 'The Marching Song' The pupils did the planning of and had a Halloween Party, Christmas Party, and Valent1ne's Party They played games, sang, and had lunch For health class, all the grades made booklets containing the ri ht kinds of foods to eat and what these foods did for the body 7TH AND BTH ACTIVITIES During the school year various projects and activities were correlated with our subgects We watched our progress in Arithmetic by keeping graphs lbar and linel Each week each student marked his graph for the week Graphs were also used to record six week's test marks '.'.'.-.-:.'.'.'.'.-.-.'.- 10' .','.-.+I-I-Z 6.5.g.g.g.g.3.g.g.1.3.:.5.1.5:3. 3.3.::5:::3:::5:g:-:-:- X T' In English we made posters which encouraged the use of better English A letter exhibit was made by the eighth grade, and oral reports were given frequently The geography class made realistic product maps of S A and the Too, booklets and salt and flour maps were made North Dakota booklets were completed in the Civics class The flag, flower, and seal were water colored and put into the booklets with compositions and numerous pictures, original ideas adorned the c 0 state along vers Penmanship papers, which covered drills practiced in class, were as sembled into booklets and a decided improvement in writing was noticed Some of the art progects were copper tapped pictures,photograph albums with finger painted covers, sand painted, and spatter painted cards and de signs, papier mache' gourds, crayonexing cloth, papier maohe' modeling, and painted plaques fbi .vQ0Q: gs:0. , jf 0 0 0 60 Yhf egg , gaf ,.f . , of .900 0,,4v- wg' ' 1ffj,' S ' ' - . , ' fgigig. ,gag .
