Dr. Samuel Gould, Chancellor of the State Uni- versity of New York, presented the President's Me- dallion, official emblem of office. In a ceremony dating from medieval times, the Faculty, Trustees, and academic representatives garbed in caps and gowns followed the Maceain procession. Invited guests and representatives of the 2300 students watched the inaugural events. President Shenton's inaugural address was en- titled Benchmark 66. He is one of the three pi- oneer faculty members still on campus who opened ECTI at the original Elmwood Avenue site twenty years ago. The ceremonies were followed by a general reception in the Spring Student Center at 3 P.M. and a Faculty-Staff dinner-dance at the Hearthstone Manor at 7 P.M. All units were directed by Prof. Schmidt. The Dance Band began the school year with four- teen members ancl played to a near-capacity audience during Open House. Several new arrangements were added to the band's repertoire. Ted Kerchner's 'iscreechu trumpet carried the group to new highs and imparted a near professional sound to the group. A Pep Band was formed at the beginning of the second term and prepared an elaborate half-time show which was performed at Corning Community College and at Broome Tech in Binghamton. A Band Banquet at the Cortese Restaurant capped the overnight excursion. Appearing with the Pep Band throughout the basketball season were the newly-organized Swingers coached by Mrs. Sue Lallmang. Nine home game appearances in the ECTI Sports Arena were climaxed with a third away-game performance at Niagara Falls. During the third quarter a Concert Band was formed and acquired new instruments including a set of pedal tympani and a French horn. Ten selections were prepared and performed at the third annual Spring Concert, which featured a trumpet trio. Music critics from both local dailies reviewed the concert favorably. Members of the Concert Band were deeply grieved by the death of Prof. George Simoneau who was an active member. Officers for the year were: Matthew Michalski, president, Michael Kennedy, vice-president, Ann Mit- chell, secretary, and Lawrence Dombrowski, treasurer Singers Socialize and Entertain .f Row lr J. ' New Studio Production Club Works on CH. 6 An On the Air sign brightly beams as another ECTI Chan- nel 6 production is being televised. The atmosphere is tense as the lights in the control room are dimmed and work on a new produc- tion begins. Through the combined efforts of the experienced co- ordinators, Mr. Fred Keller and Mr. Ken Wasmund, and student technicians, programs of interest and benefit to the students as well as the faculty are produced. The work, though demanding, is rewarding, as well as educational. Being a member ofthe Studio Production Club, one has a first hand opportunity to find out how a television station is operated. The group learns television cam- era operation, technical producing, studio lighting, studio man- agement, and audio-visual control. 49 Row l: Prof. Ford, P. Clerkin, S. Berns. Row 2: M. Lambda participates in many social activities dur- ing the year for the sorority and for the school including two rush periods and pledging. The chapter founded here in l95O, is the youngest of the fra- ternity's thirteen chapters, yet the oldest on the ECTI cam- pus. Stressing better education as a primary function, Theta Gamma feels that social life is also necessary to achieve a well-rounded personality. The social activity of this fraternity included many blasts throughout the year, climaxed by the annual Snow Ball. Closely following these high ideals and ethics, Kappa Tau has progressed over these seven years to become one of ECTl's best and most respected fraternities. The beginning of this school year found Kappa Tau ac- tive in assisting Student Council and Faculty during Orienta- tion week. The brothers then began their social calendar by sponsoring informal socials, fraternity parties, the annual Mardi Gras, and the annual Christmas Party. The brothers of Kappa Tau are proud of their distinction of holding the high- est scholastic average of any of the Greeks on campus. Among the activities of K.S.K. were their l7th annual Sweetheart Ball, which was an outstanding success, vari- ous work parties at Saint Rita's Home for Children, and a national service proiect adopted in l956, aiding Father Flannigan's Boys' Town.
