The G.A.A., under the sponsorship of Miss Helen Carey, consists of fifty-three members, twenty of whom were initiated into the associa- tion at the first of the year. The group elect- ed as their officers, Mary Appleby, president: Lois Hawk, vice-president: Nancy Seger, secre- tary: Shirley Kennedy, treasurer, and Carol Firch, recorder. The main event of this year's activities was the sponsoring of th e Homecoming festivi- ties--a parade, pep rally, and the Erie-Tampico football game. Mary Appleby wa s crowned queen by the co-captains, John Stoudt and Paul Culp. The evening wa s olimaxed by a dance in the gym- nasium. The awards for which th e girls are working are as follows: numerals, the first local award, school letter, the second local award: the block I, the first state awardg and a map of Illinois, the second state award. These awards are based on the number of points obtained each year. The points are received by following health rules and participating in sport activities. The purpose of the G.A.A. is to maintain high standards, promote ideals of health and sports- manship, and to stimulate interest in athletics among girls in the high schools of Illinois.
