The Cardinals started out the season by win- ning their first five games--on e each from Port Byron, Hillsdale, Fulton, Geneseo,andAnnawan--be- fore being defeated by a good Morrison team. They beat Atkinson but lost to Allemen in th e Holiday Tournament. In the next game, Erie lost to Prophetstown but in following games they came through an d de- feated Lyndon and Tampico. Then came the Two Rivers Conference tourna- ment, with Eh'-ie going through to th e championship and gaining revenge on Prophetstown by knocking them off for the title. The Cardinals won eight of their last ten games, defeating Mineral,Port Byron, Orion, Hills- dale, Genesee, Cordova, Morrison, and Fulton, but losing to Rock Falls and Prophetstown. Erie then played one of the top teams in the State Regional, Rock Island, but lost to them. The Cardinals played mainly as a team with no standouts, but Stoudt, Misfeldt, Culp, Freude, Rey- nolds, Bugbee, an d DeGap led th e way for most of the wins. Coach Snilanich, in hi s first full year at Erie, turned out a fine team. With a good second team coming up, the school can look forward to an- other succossful basketball season next year.
