Culp, our hard-charging fullback, pushed over most of Er1e's scores with six touchdowns. Misfeldt also scored a touchdown and Schehl had two kicks. In t he fourth game th e Cardinals ripped through Annawan as th e final score of 514-58 showed. Touchdowns were scored by Culp, Stoudt, Dillin, and Misfeldt. Naftzger, Border, and Dlllin played good defensive bell which al- lowed Erie to score their points. Next on the schedule was a tilt with th e Prophets. We fommd the going a little rough and after fighting hard bowed to them with a score of 27- 0. Our final game of' th e season was with Tampico. It was th e homecoming game and we ripped through the Trojans in a free scoring tilt which ended in a 38-25 victory. During the season Culp stacked up 155 points for which we offer him our congratulations. At the end of the successful season the Legion gre the boysa fine ban- quet with Coach Moon Mullins as guest speaker. Th e awards were presented by Coach Smilanich to the hard-working boys who all helped make Er1e's first football season a successful one. Th e co-captains, Culp and Stoudt, along with everyone else wish next year's captains, Nattzger and Ellison, an d their team th e best of' luck for the next and the following seasons. The Cardinals started out the season by win- ning their first five games--on e each from Port Byron, Hillsdale, Fulton, Geneseo,andAnnawan--be- fore being defeated by a good Morrison team. They beat Atkinson but lost to Allemen in th e Holiday Tournament. In the next game, Erie lost to Prophetstown but in following games they came through an d de- feated Lyndon and Tampico. Then came the Two Rivers Conference tourna- ment, with Eh'-ie going through to th e championship and gaining revenge on Prophetstown by knocking them off for the title. The Cardinals won eight of their last ten games, defeating Mineral,Port Byron, Orion, Hills- dale, Genesee, Cordova, Morrison, and Fulton, but losing to Rock Falls and Prophetstown. Erie then played one of the top teams in the State Regional, Rock Island, but lost to them. The Cardinals played mainly as a team with no standouts, but Stoudt, Misfeldt, Culp, Freude, Rey- nolds, Bugbee, an d DeGap led th e way for most of the wins. Coach Snilanich, in hi s first full year at Erie, turned out a fine team. With a good second team coming up, the school can look forward to an- other succossful basketball season next year.
