In intermediate algebra our attitude toward numbers changed radically, as those we had known changed to radicals and even more complex forms. We soon became adept in the use of the new techniques taught in this course. We found that problems involving the construction of houses could be solved easily with the use of logs. We also learned that there were many factors to be considered in solving quadratic equations. For the more ambitious student such courses as trigo- nometry, advanced algebra, solid geometry, and calculus were available. In addition, honor classes were offered in most areas, and special math team classes prepared selected stu- dents for interscholastic competition as well as covering the regular curriculum. Many Erasmians have decided to continue their study of math. The rest of us bade farewell to quadratic, linear, cubic, exponential, logarithmic, and generally cryptic equations, frequent tests, and interminable homework with a heavy heart. Self expression is the thing, Joan Harris holds her latest Work upside down for Mr. Harry Allan. FINE ARTS The artist of tomorrow, the student desiring to under- stand and enjoy the art of today and yesterday, and the ilh pup appy merely to be able to create his doodles, splotches, and clay chunks under expert supervision all benefited from Erasmus Hall's art program. The required minor art course presented the basic rela- tionships of color, form, and design With a view toward enhancing our appreciation of painting and sculpture. For the first time major art was offered as a fifth major subject for academic students. This three-year program included an introduction to all the major media of pictorial expression, While stressing the art of getting ahead in careers requiring talent and interest in art. Other innovations in this dynamic department included honor minor art classes and a television course called Through the Eyes of the Artist.
