In the Fall of 1946 the eleven suffered five setbacks while beating Tilden. However, two of the losses were by one and two points. Finishing in fourth place, the soccer team had their best showing in years. The mermen gained a fourth place in league standings. For the first time in thirteen years, the Quintet failed to win a playoff berth. Despite winning thirteen and losing only four, they finished third. The highlight of the season was a crushing 54-38 defeat the Flying Dutch- men handed Parker High, Interscholastic Champs of South Carolina. Brightened hy the showing of the relay teams, the Tram-kmen completed an only average season, despite the efforts of Bill Grossman. The Golf Team, after a fourteen-year alisence from the Erasmus sports scene, was revived in the Spring of 1947, mainly through the efforts of stalwarts, Lenny Grub- man, Larry Salzman, and Myron Kandel. For the second consecutive year, the Fencers won the City Title plus a host of individual honors. A Sports Luncheon bringing together all the athletes of the school, both boys and girls, and honoring Erasmus' coaches, was instituted. It was planned to make it into a semisannual event.

PORT The Cagers again ad- vanced to the playoff tour- ney after winning the Brooklyn DIVISION II CROYVN. In an overtime thriller, they bowed to Newtown 36-33. The Netmen picked up a leg on the Alex Taylor Tennis Trophy, in the Spring of 19415. Starting fast, the grid- ders won their first three encounters, but then dropped two of their last three games. Cross Country, one of Erasmus' least publicized sports, broke into the headlines as the Harriers gained the Boro title. The Spring 1946 term brought on the most successful period in recent Erasmus Hall athletic history. The underrated Basketeers finished second in their division, but proceeded to amaze the entire city with their fighting spirit in the play- offs. After successively upsetting Stuyvesant, Lincoln, and Jackson, the underdog Dutchmen finally bowed to Franklin in the city finals. For the first time in twenty-one years, the outdoor Trackmen ran off with the City Crown. Beating Lincoln in the finals, the Foilsmen captured the City Fencing Diadem. The tennis team lost out in its try for League Championship honors, but gained the second leg on the Alex Taylor Trophy. The baseball team again finished an average season in third place. ikv fiat! wa va
