When the Class of '41 entered the Main Building for the first time, the student body was teeming with excitement. The basket- ball team was leading our Division and enthusiasm was running high. The quintet did Win the championship and We, as Ereshies, received our first taste of Erasmus l-lall athletics. As the Class of '41 started its final term, the basketball team was again fighting for top honors in our division. And once again, the Buff and Blue came out ahead of the pack. The team had some of the finest players in our basketball history. Coach Al Badain called lerry Eleishman, for ex- ample, the greatest player that Erasmus ever produced. That he alone did not hold this opinion Was proved by Ierry's being on the All-City five for two consecutive years. The spark-plug of the team was fiery Captain Freddy Mayblum, whose three star years of varsity ball proved his ability. BUYS' The accurate set-shot of Al Dente decided the outcome of many games. lt was his last minute basket against New Utrecht that gave the team the Division title. The defensive game of quiet and amiable Elmer Levine made him a popular player. An injured knee was no handicap for Lennie Doctor, who played all season. ln the pivot or on defense, the Doc was always a threat. The speed of Mike DeMeo, coupled with his accurate passing, made him the squad's leading reserve. The man behind the scenes was Eddie Kresky, diminutive manager of the team. For more than fifteen years, the swim- ming team has Won the Brooklyn-Richmond championship. Two of Mr. Bannon's chief point-getters from our grade were Steve Sokoloff and lohn l-larrer. Socky was the team's leading breast stroker, taking many first places throughout the season. When not writing poetry, l-larrer swam anchor- man for the undefeated relay team. v T 4f- f

SPORTS to content ourselves with the runner-up prizes of E. H.'s. ln softball we were more successful than in hockey. During our sixth term, captained by Lucille Krohn, we defeated all comers and received our major E's. These awards went to Lucille Krohn, Iuanita Coatney, Mae Lobsenz, Ethel Speyer, Edith Salmon, Ioyce Malm, and Marilyn Murphy. We have not been able to achieve any great honor in one of our most popular activities, basketball. Our teams, however, have been near the top many times in the last four years. Our swimming laurels have been faith- fully upheld by Florence Kahan, Florence Hughes, Faith Dane, Iosephine Cleary, Dot Young, and Gertrude Mazza. lt has been said that Florence Hughes stands a good chance of rising to olympic greatness. Of all the varied activities, there is one which is outstanding, the Leaders Club. We recall the harrowing ordeal ot tryouts for membership. Ot the one hundred girls, aspiring to become members, only a very few were accepted by the club, composed of the choicest girl athletes. The club bids farewell, this year, to several of its mem- bers-e---Lucille Krohn, Ethel Speyer, Marilyn Murphy, Edith Salmon, Ioyce Malm, Lore raine DaCosta, Iuanita Coatney, Eleanor Carey, Helen Iohnson, Sheila Berkeley, and Phyllis Sloan. Although not Leaders, the following girls have also been very active in athletics,e Faith Dane, Iosephine Cleary, Virginia Leonard, lean Cochenour, Florence Kahan, Florence Hughes, and Gertrude Mazza.

SPUHTS l-larry Kaufman, co-captain oi the track team, compiled a brilliant record in both cross-country and track, Bob Davidson, Harold Isaacson, Ioe Salzhandler, Ed Draney and Harvey Shapiro were out- standing long-distance runners while Gus Vlitos and Gene Schneider starred in the sprints. Under their new mentor, Mri George Bartelt, the ioilsmen were Worthy oppof nents for all-comers. Captain Stan Bern- stein covered himself with glory and bruises throughout the season. Henry Stein and Burt Wise compiled an impressive record, while Sheldon Wortzman carried out the managerial duties. Brooklyn is noted as a baseball town and Mr. Dugan has an important job putting out a good baseball team each season. Cofcaptains Ierry Gutt and Paul Esposito were the slugging and fielding combinaf tion that made his task easier. Other star Erasmus athletes were Dick Deasy on the tennis team and Boy Cahill, football manager and lacrosse expert. 'w
