l l To the Members of the Class of June 1939: Heartiest congratulations upon the successful completion of your work here and best Wishes for continued success in the years ahead. Your family and your community have made it possible for you to enjoy four years of high school education in this Old School. You have, in general, succeeded in proportion to your ability and your effort. Wlletliei' you go 011 to college to continue your studies or enter the active work-a-day World upon gradua- tion, you will soon have an opportunity to play your part in the life of our city, state, and country. Today, life is so complex and so infinite in possibil- ities that to meet our responsibilities we must be prepared in knowledge, in character, and in effective habits of thinking and doing. You approach maturity and the responsibilities of adult citizenship at a time when many are confused by false philosophies and specious solutions of the problems confronting us. Propagandists with all sorts of panaceas for our ills exhort us to follow them to security and safety. ln the moral and intellectual turmoil that life is today, may l urge you to hold fast to the best that you have been taught, to use your minds to discover truth, to refuse to be stampeded by clamor, and to remain at all times straight-think- ing, right-acting young people. Only as the level of personal character in public life is raised shall we solve the problems that today seem so baf- fling. The world needs your help in working out these solutions. Your teachers and your friends wish you every success and every possible happiness in the fruitful years that lie ahead of you. Sincerely yours, JOHN F. MC NEILL
