7764 Wddlfd-iq In the year 1943 the class of 55 arrrved to be put under the guardtanshtp of Mrss Dora Weese and Mrss Ruth Black We had several puprls that year Earl Dean Lots Ann Ballew Herman Dean Ann Long Buster Fowler Jackre Callrhan Jo Ann Lawrence Mrldred Watkrns Chrrsttne Rutherford Gene Phrllrps and Yours Truly The second grade my but weren t we proud? We had as our teachers Mrs jack Stanley and Mrs Rhodre Owens Mtss Mercedes Lyle and M1ss Ruth Alken helped us m our thrrd grade and were Jomed by Helen Brown who came to us from Taft Herghts School lfl Caltfornra and Iuanrta Bell from Pantwell and Charles Rutherford As thls happy band began feelrng the1r ultrmate tmportance to the world we entered the fourth grade under the gutdance of Mrs Zellie Earnest and Mrss Robbre Donaldson Frnally we entered the frfth grade w1th teachers Mrs Tyson Smrth and Mrs Ruth Cole and were Jorned by Claude Abernathy and Trav1s Black Thrs year w11l always be remembered by all of us tn that ftfth grade class because we d1d so many unusual thtngs We went to Blue Rrdge on the tram to see the movle Gone Wtth the Wind we V1S1ICd the telephone offtce to see how our phones rmg and we V1S1Ied the prrntlng offlce to see how our Copper C1ty Advance ts prrnted We really had a wonderful trme that year The ttme for us to enter the sixth grade frnally rolled around We were Jomed by Cecrl Stuart and had as our teachers Mrss Merry Selman and Mlss Marte Black At last we were bosses of the whole grammar school we were rn the seventh grade Bemg a little opt1m1st1c because of so much talk about the teachers Mrs Earl Hyde and Mtss Nell Daves we strode carefully at frrst Then as time wore on we learned to lrke the teachers very much and we started berng real bosses But we really learned a lot that year as those teachers are wonderful Soon we were moved over tn the hrgh school bu1ld1ng to enter the elghth grade We were real grown up people now however we weren t able to keep one teacher for more than srx weeks Thts example demonstrated our abllrty to be real grown people' We were Joined by Barbara Segraves from Cleveland Tennessee and Nancy Brovsm who had been elevated to the erghth grade cont d I , . . . 94471 On a sunny September mornrng twelve years ago a group of bewrldered chrldren gathered wrth Mrss Laura Waters and Mtss Sullxvan to seek their fortunes as scholars The group consisted of Margaret Davrdson Lorene Kyle Helen Franklm Patsy Beavers Clara Lou Turner Irene Trpton and myself Throughout our second year we were dxrected by Mrs Howl and Mrss Cagle Although we drd not receive any new members that year we lost one of our group Margaret Davrdson whom we missed very much Entermg mto the th1rd grade we were supervtsed by Mrs Calllhan and Mrs Gnggs unt1l December when Mrss Matthews took over Mrs Grrggs splendrd work That year we were Jotned by Bernice Millsaps Dorothy Corn and Ruth McDamel Enrolhng rn the fourth grade we were taught by Miss Matthews and Mrs Chambers who left us ln December and was replaced by a wonderful person, Mrss Drllard whom we all loved very much In addiuon to Margaret David son who returned that year Alrce Burnett Jotned us Mrss Taylor we recerved no addrtional members in our class In our srxth year we were all well pleased to fmd Mr Dunn and Mrs Beavers to be our advrsors Much to our surprxse Mt Dunn dropped teachrng and was replaced by Mr Drllrngham Thrs year Tommy Bennett was added to our large enrollment Travehng pretty fast we had reached the seventh grade We were spon sored by Mrs Johnson and Mr Black Nancy Whrtlow Joined us this year My but we really felt our stuff at last we had reached the erghth grade and were 1n the hrgh school burldrng tn the care of Mrs Wrthrow and Mrss Wolrver We were Jomed thrs year by Vrrginra Wrtzel Lonrs and Cledrs Drllard Betty Crawford Henrietta Snllwell, and Elene Postell Chmbmg higher now we had reached the tenth grade Thrs year we were rnstructed by Mr Taylor Not ga1n1ng or losmg anyone we completed a very successful year. Cdfdfby Very much to the astonxshment of everyone we entered hxgh school and were Jorned by Bobby Martm from Fl11Jay lt wasn t at all what we had expected everyone snubbed us We were green Freshmen among the old hands We drdn t pay too much attentron to them though we went about our own busrness and leamed our own lessons Our Sophomore year was to be long remembered by us all Barbara Harper jotned us In September and after a whole year of fun money maktng and a lrttle studyrng our school burned' We fmrshed the remamrng two weeks of school rn the gymnasrum and began preparrng to weave ourselves mto the other schools Barbara Colhs The begrnnmg of the eleventh grade was a mrxture of excrtement and re sentment Resentment for those students who were agarnst McCaysv1lle s stu dents comrng to Epworth and excrtement for those favormg rt But out of the chaos came one of the most co operattve groups of the whole school We was a great success We had as our theme Moonlxght and Roses and ll rs sard to have been the prettrest banquet ever grven rn Fannrn County Thanks to our sponsors Mrs S R Whttfteld and Mtss Mary Cook Wrth great enthusrasm we the Semor Class plunged tnto a very eXC1I1Ilg last year and began plannrng for our two greatest projects the annual and our class tr1p Our many other actrvrttes durmg thrs year mcluded a Junror Sen 1or party several square dances a Chrlstmas patty and publxcatton of the school paper All these actrvrtres were made posstble by our two wonderful sponsors Mrs S R Whxtfxeld and Mr I M Haymore Barbara Collrs W1lla Mae Thomas O S ' banded together and began raising money for the Junior-Senior Banquet, which
