Jones. A One day I decided to visit the Supply Department spaces and learn what made our person- nel click , Apparently I caught my shipmates off guard, for weird scenes were taking place. As I walked into theiSupply office, I heard the fish worshiper Larrey telling smoke stacks Barr to put out his cigar. I could hardly blame Larrey, for it took me ten minutes to find lost love Ells- 's.'orth and Hi ya, buddy! Hammel through the smoke. I left the ollice and ran into Napoleon ENS. Jones who was looking for the last of the Polish dictators Kaminski. Nap could not find Ski , so he happily skipped along in search of the duty water king VVilson. Two hours prior to knock off ship's work, SN Long was trying to give the duty keys to six ton rice kid Han- sen. While the Quiet one Vantongeren was talking to the animal Kriepe, the Captain's pants were burning on the laundry press. Later I spotted giggles Alvarez selling rice to pineapple kid Flores. In the galley scullcat Ford and sleepy eyes Hunn promised an extra scoop of lico- rice ice cream to Borden and Varney if the two SN could coax the crew into eating the evening meal Qlipperson steakj. I left the galley to get a haircut, but I decided my hair could wait after I saw butcher Weldon trying to put the XO's ear back on with Elrner's Glue. Mlhat more could happen that day? Lo and behold, I stared in disbelief at Tarzan stud Cotterup who was swinging through the passageways and emitting terrifying screams. I decided to see the Doc -before I went crazy myself. I

ZE ENS Nc. JONES, SUPPLY OFFICER Supply is the smallest department and the largest division. Its range of jobs and Skills is the largest of any comparable group on the ship. Our team of commissarymen and stewards work round the clock to provide varied and wholesome meals for 285 hungry sailors. Our ship's store and barbershop make a large contribu- tion toward keeping everyone well provided for and well groomed. -Our laundry works twenty- four hours a day doing 7000 pounds of laundry and pressing 500 pieces every week. Disbursing personnel handle Special pay, allotments, travel pay, and other services to ensure that our crew and their families are regularly and efficiently Supported. In support of the ship and its equipment, our storekeepers ride herd on a repair part inven- tory comprising 18,000 different items, all essential to the readiness and lighting capability of the ship. They also maintain the files and records necessary to order, issue, and document the expendi- tures of twenty thousand dollars every quarter. ' . Supply's work for the deployment began several months before we left Hawaii. Tons of re- pair parts, consumables, ship's store stock, laundry and barber supplies and of course food had to be packed into our fourteen storerooms. Throughout the cruise we have made use of unreps from AF'S, AKS, AOE'S, and even oilers as well as all port visits to keep our supplies HTOPPED OFF . Our goal was to leave Hawaii as self-suflicient as possible and to remain READY FOR SEA through the deployment.,
