THE ENGINEE So very similar are the duties and the re- sponsibilities of the MAN and the Mn divi- sions that it is only fitting to take special pains to differentiate between them. The MN Gang under Chief Branson does the work in theiEngine rooms. They take care of the pumps, water supply, air conditioning and other units located in the Engine rooms. The i'Water Kingv is a title bestowed upon one of the members of the HM Division. The AW Gang, under the direction of Chief Davenport, is responsible for the auxiliary gear, water pumps, heating system, f00d freezer and the ice cream machine-all of which is located outside of the Engine r0OmS- From the ranks of the A Gang are the RING DEPARTMENT engineers to the motor whaleboats. Though their responsibilities differ, both rat- ings stand their watches in the Engine rooms. Oftentimes an EM is rousted out of his rack at some ungodly hour to work on a power failure, and finds out more often than not that his shipmate has been fumbling around with the wrong switch. The real pet peeve of this twelve hand working party is to be called away to some far corner of the ship to tighten a lightbulb. This ,group's primary task is to assure there is power available in all parts of the ship.
