Ablyassisting him in the store? 1'00U1S is uB0b', Franker who also handles Ship's Allotment in the Supply Qfgcg. ' . , just ask Bob about the Mrs.,' and he'11 have Ou cornered, telling you all about his post-Niivy plans and showing you a picture of a cute girl-h1s wife. That quiet one standing in the torpedo shack in his butcher-er-barber jacket is, of course, our barber, T. L. Miller SH2. Way back aft under the fantail is ani other quite famous group-the laundry b0Y5,,- Honestly, they ' don't intentionally bleach those dungarees baby blue , actually, it's no cinch washing, ironing, and sorting out clothes with the ship rolling and pitching, water sloshiing on the deck, and the tem- perature about as hot as Hades. In charge is' Billy Walker, assisted by Tommy Taylor, another Rebel, T. L. You gotta show me Bordeaux fhe's from Nlissourij, and Leon Lehman, from Mon-tan--n-n--n -n-a. Last but not least we come to the Supply Ollice where we find some of the real cats Qexcuse me, Ship's Utiicej. Heading the list is Lee Moritz, DK3, who not only owns a Hong Kong suit but asilk brocaded H. K. vest as well I a feat only equaled by 3 of the more 'cprogressivev ollicersj. Assistant Disbursing Clerk is Dave Chapman, they figure out all the pay, type up personal allotments, and assist the D. O. on travel claims. We've i 2z..tzs...z.s1r already mentioned 3 of the SK's which leaves us with Mac,' McKenna, one of the Boston Back Bayers who works on ship's store returns and GSM, and Jim f Sons of the Colden Westvj fCallet, oflice Supervisor. Not counted above but part of HS Division temporarily are those crew members who have served as Mess Cooks. Their job is probably little appreciated but a big one: they helped to make those Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners the memorable events they were. To all who have pulled such Hhitchesw goes a Well Donei' from the uregularsw of S Division. Helping to coordinate the laundry, barber- shop, and other divisional work, and acting as assistant to the S. O. is M. A. f Now, Bossvj Speer, CSRC, with 20 years service. ' Division Oiiicer and Boss is LT. Pay Tumbleson who may be thrown into a temporary rage by any dero- gatory' remarks on the fair state of California or by the question: Did you go t0 Stanford? ' Although the motto of the' Sup- ply Corps is Ready for Sea , I am forced to admit that the new slogan of S Divis-i011 has become Ready for Shore Duty . Q . It is somewhat hard to believe but all of the above comments are directed, infrequently it is hoped, toward just one small department on this ship: Supply. This department con- sists of only one divisione-'LSU-composed of some 33 men, including the 3 pill push- ersl' in sickbay, Doc Anderson, HMC, and J. Dewhirst, HM3, L. Parker, SN. The adopted MM? division is remembered best for its pre-cruise inoculations fthose long linesj, strange prescriptions fAPC's and raisinsj, and lectures and movies on various topics. MS division may be divided into 4 sections: commissary, stewards, ship's S8-rViC6r and Supply ofiice fstorekeepersj. Commissary does the feeding, that's more than just cook- ing and serving fwith the help of the volun- teer mess cooksj, but means ordering, re- ceiving, storing, issuing, and accounting for the provisions used. Most of the pHPCf work is done by Misco Barron, an SK in the suppll' Office. In charge of the galley is a comparative. newcomer to the Eppy , L. Wood, CSI, fa pretty sharp boy: just check those CCT, etc. marksj. Assisting him as Watch Cap- tains are c'Cad Caldwell and Duke Neville, who recently acquired a business in- terest in Yokosuka. Rounding out the cooks putting out that 'cshipping over chow are A. Futreal and Little Joe Brown. Who makes those luscious pies and cakes fulust like mother used to makenj? Ketch Ketch- mark, and Cliff Krondak. Nick Futreal and his assistant Hardy Hardison may sometimes be found way down in the bilges sorting out stores after some particularly 'cheavy weather . Heading up the whole or- ganization is Stew Flood, CSC, with 17 years service. Next are the stewards who cook, serve meals, and clean staterooms. The head man is C. Taijeron, SDI, ably assisted by E. Maya, SD3, and uFrank Alconcel, SD 3. One of the' longest-serving S division men on the Epperson is A. Stephens whose gleaming, always smiling face may be seen around the wardroom pantry. Staff steward is H. Biocg 'clfddien Edwards if found daydreaming may be excused-he's thinking of a certain uMiss 7235- 31151 4 'f 1 . t iff, 'is . I J .A M .
