The safety and ethciency of the ship, and its fighting potential depend- to a large ex- tent on the operating condition of the elec- tronics equipment in CIC and Radio Central. ln order to keep the various transmitters and receivers in proper working order the eight electonics technicians work full time at their trade. Keeping up a suliicient stock of elec- tronics parts, and keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field of electronics add to the responsibilities of this small, Thccgessary division, headed by Ltjg. Wunder- IC . The routing, filing, and preparation,of mail Correspondence fCommunicationsj fall upon V-ID'--,th .14 'A s.. Y Q. Whether of a routine or urgent nature, the stacks of papers that constantly fill the boxes in the otlice affect most every operation of the ship and its men. From reports of exercises to transfer of men for reassignment, discharge or leave, the volume of work is great and keeps the yeo-yeo's busy during off duty hours as well as during uturn to hours. The ship's Secretary is also a busy man as Ens. Cillig 81 Bredenberg can tell you after having headed the office division. Visual navigation, radar navigation, radio communications, letter communications' and electronics maintenance are the five important phases covered by the divisions of the Opera- tions Department in carrying out its mission. Q . It is somewhat hard to believe but all of the above comments are directed, infrequently it is hoped, toward just one small department on this ship: Supply. This department con- sists of only one divisione-'LSU-composed of some 33 men, including the 3 pill push- ersl' in sickbay, Doc Anderson, HMC, and J. Dewhirst, HM3, L. Parker, SN. The adopted MM? division is remembered best for its pre-cruise inoculations fthose long linesj, strange prescriptions fAPC's and raisinsj, and lectures and movies on various topics. MS division may be divided into 4 sections: commissary, stewards, ship's S8-rViC6r and Supply ofiice fstorekeepersj. Commissary does the feeding, that's more than just cook- ing and serving fwith the help of the volun- teer mess cooksj, but means ordering, re- ceiving, storing, issuing, and accounting for the provisions used. Most of the pHPCf work is done by Misco Barron, an SK in the suppll' Office. In charge of the galley is a comparative. newcomer to the Eppy , L. Wood, CSI, fa pretty sharp boy: just check those CCT, etc. marksj. Assisting him as Watch Cap- tains are c'Cad Caldwell and Duke Neville, who recently acquired a business in- terest in Yokosuka. Rounding out the cooks putting out that 'cshipping over chow are A. Futreal and Little Joe Brown. Who makes those luscious pies and cakes fulust like mother used to makenj? Ketch Ketch- mark, and Cliff Krondak. Nick Futreal and his assistant Hardy Hardison may sometimes be found way down in the bilges sorting out stores after some particularly 'cheavy weather . Heading up the whole or- ganization is Stew Flood, CSC, with 17 years service. Next are the stewards who cook, serve meals, and clean staterooms. The head man is C. Taijeron, SDI, ably assisted by E. Maya, SD3, and uFrank Alconcel, SD 3. One of the' longest-serving S division men on the Epperson is A. Stephens whose gleaming, always smiling face may be seen around the wardroom pantry. Staff steward is H. Biocg 'clfddien Edwards if found daydreaming may be excused-he's thinking of a certain uMiss 7235- 31151 4 'f 1 . t iff, 'is . I J .A M .
